OK, since most are on 800's, hopefully there are other 600 people reading this.

I wanted to make a dirtbike comparison and see what you all think. For this example, we will use a YZF450 and YZF250. (Could be Kawasaki/Honda, brand isn't the point)

When riding the 250 4 strokes, I feel like I can ream that bike all day. Wished it had a little more power, but I always feel like I am riding that bike. Now, when I ride the 450, tons of power, I sometimes feel like that bike rides me though. (keep in mind, I raced GSXR-600 competitively for years so I do like speed and power!)

So the question is, do you 800 riders ever feel like the 800's ride you at all, or is the extra power totally usable and welcomed over a 600? I have not gotten to ride an 800 so I can only base my sled experience on a 600.

For as much as I don't get to ride - the 600 is all I need. Heck, I wish there was still a 500 liquid out there. I'd buy one for me and the wife.

I know what you mean. 800 isnt like that at all. A girl can easily ride a 800.

I know exactly what your saying about the difference in bikes between engine size. It is definitely not the same comparison on a sled. I'm not exactly sure why that is, but I suspect it may have something to do with power to weight ratios?

There really isn't a ton of difference between riding a 600 or 800 sled until you start getting towards top end speeds. In fact, i believe a 600 actually has a slightly better power to weight ratio at sea level, versus an 800. The biggest difference between the 6 and 8 is when you throw elevation into the mix.

Now that you got me thinking about it?
I wonder if the CVT transmission used on sleds, may be a contributing factor as to why there is not such a noticeable difference between engine sizes?

Snowluver ,hope all is well. Ran into one of your coworkers at 3800 Golf today. Stay off your kids dirt bike, old bones don't heal as fast as they did when you were 18. Hey Whitedust ,I never said my sled was faster than yours? It's a lot faster. Could someone pass the pop corn ! :)

I can only offer my experience in the off-trail segment of riding. The 800 shines when the flipper is mashed, track speed can get you out of many situations. I believe we use all the power our 800 produce and we use it very often which IMO deems it necessary. Riding in the deep means more RMP's and less actual speed, it's like that often. Ask Byrn71 when he is doing his famous "pin and wiggle",,,,,lol

Ha ha!
Well, I'm here to tell ya, engine size doesn't discriminate. A broken rib is a broken rib.

Apparently, your supposed to stay on the machine, whether an 80 or an 800! Lol

Garyl62, I was thinking maybe 4 strokes were pulling some sales away from the 600's but so far there neck and neck with 800's. Interesting.

Haven't ridden a 600 since my buddies polaris 2003xc. Always preferred 700's whether twin or triple.
Guess I should get out demo a few newer 600's.

Keep votes coming guys.

Been running the Polaris 600's Liberty for years in all kind of chassis. While all you been whining about your various mfg. engine troubles on this forum we have been riding and riding and riding and still riding with trouble free miles.

Hey Adam, glade to hear it's just a bloody flesh wound. Though I broke one rib and fractured another last year. It hurt like **** for 3 months if I aggravated it the wrong way. Back to the subject on hand. This is a funny chit. The mfg rant is stupid. They get an extra 2 k out of a sled to just throw a 800 decal on the hood. The auto industry can make a 300hp v6 all day long. When they make a 400hp oil burner and put it into a 60 k f250 we line up and pay the 110% mark up and brag to your friends . MFG's will sell what people are willing to buy. They stopped selling 340's because people stopped buying them?

Tuff to say out of the box. In the right hands they all run. Bad thing about drag racing the etec is lot of times the sled is in a limp mode and the person has NO IDEA. Whether it was caused by high water temp or high EGTs the ecu will pull timing to protect the engine. But it will not reset until sled is shut off. So any of u guys with etecs make sure u shut the sled off before u race someone. Plus it sux doo wont let u lean an etec down. Hence the reason doo doesnt compete in stock grass drags anymore.

Fuel controllers on both cat and poo let u richen and lean down the fuel delivery. On the etec a fuel adder can only go 1 way. More fuel. The computer on the etec is too smart to be faked out. And doo doesnt care. They dont want people running it lean. Its disapointing they dont let racers lean it down for special purposes.

great video, a lot of people need to see that and understand the true differences. I am not a mountain rider, yet, but that video really made me think twice before I upgrade in the future.

having a hard time believing that riders wouldn't know there sled is in limp mode. OMDave has a 600 etec and I've seen that machine in limp mode and you know it has a problem. I believe all machines with FI control mapping and knock, it's not exclusive to doo. Maybe the egt's sensor is doo only but not sure about that
