Etec outboard oil vs. Ski Doo Etec snowmobile oil

There are 2 outboard oils and etech has to be tuned to accept the more expensive oil and your stuck using that oil only. I use the cheaper of the 2 and can use other oils as well. Talk to your dealer.

Even though they are both ETecs, there are many differences between the snowmobile and outboard ETec engines. As whitedust said, get with a reputable dealer. Oil flow characteristics, pour point is a very important factor in snowmobile oils.

They are different. Outboards depending on horsepower can run either xd30, xd50, or xd100. The outboards are programmed at time of rigging by the dealer.

Specifically noted on the snowmobile oil container to not run it in the outboards. We had a customer try to run it this season in his 300hp Evinrude outboard, it did not go so well for them.

I have not understand why anyone can spend $12,000-$15,000 on a sled and use oil that is not recomended for their sled!!!

I would hope they are looking for something better but if cost is the issue for oil then reasoning is misplaced.

Just out of curiosity what happened? Every year is the oils debate and my experience has been run what works for you.

Thanks!

correct me if I am wrong but isn't a TC-W3 rating designate that it can me exhausted into the water and not a quality rating?

because marketing to the masses won't work on every one no matter what the oem spends in that department.

Nobody is stating the obvious, an outboard might run down to 50 degrees while a snowmobile should never get that hot. So an outboard has to protect to 100+ degrees ambient and a snowmobile has to protect down to ??? -30?
