I have a 2011 F8 EXT and it requires 91 octane. According to the dealer if you don't use 91 octane the knock sensor will not allow the motor to run normally so it will not damage the motor. I haven't tried this out and am not planning on it.

I've got the '11 F8 EXT as well. Your ok to run lower octane gas as long as you don't hold the throttle wide open. The gauge will read a Octane code and will retard the engine to prevent damage to motor. Not recommended to run lower octane alot though (can't get 91 at all gas stations )
