How are the colors progressing? Did the cold snap last week kick start the change? We are heading up to the LG area the weekends of Oct 1st and 8th. Hoping it is good through the 8th.

From what I hear, there's still little to no significant color in the western half of the UP (approximately west of a line from Nahma to Munising), and only low color with little to no leaf drop in the eastern half. (Of course I'm not there to see it for myself.)

Thanks Nash. I spoke with Marlin at Timberline in Bergland yesterday and he said in the last 48 hours the colors had started to pop a little.

Very little change here in the Keweenaw. It has been soooo dry, I am suprised that we haven't lost much of the green just due to the stress on the tree's. Some spotty area's of color beginning to appear sporadically. The night time temps have been on the warmer side, perhaps that could explain the slow start.-Mezz

This report (for the western UP) just in at 3:49PM (EDT):

"The leaves have really turned inland. The best place right now for prime colors is on M26 between Toivola and Painesdale. Absolutely gorgeous. As for near the shore, the landscape is "slowly" being painted."

Yesterday I was down in Twin Lakes and today in the South Range area for labs and there is still alot of green in most areas. And I will confirm that report, the best colors I saw in the past two days were between Painsdale and Toivola.

Some nice color here & there & no sun for days now with storm stuck over Great lakes. Not peak yet but next 10 days color will ramp up quickly then wind can take it away too quickly. Color schedule seems about right to other years.

actually here in the keweenaw the last 4-5 days the colors really showed up i would say its earlier this year than last year but its suppose to be winds of 50-60 mph tomorrow but this weekend will probably be the best weekend for colors in the keweenaw depending on how much of the leave are left after the wind tomorrow

I think were gonna peak in the next 3-6 days, may loose lots of leaves if we get the wins they're calling for tomorrow. I am heading down to Baraga tomorrow and will snap a few pics.
