Phelps past peak 50/50 on ground & trees now. Forecasting big wind on Friday probably will strip off a lot of leaves reduce to maybe 25% color left on trees if we get high winds. Temps in 70s & lots of sun this week. Been super nice.

Have you ever seen the glory.. Of the North woods in the Fall? The gold and scarlet maples, The bronze oaks standing tall, The birch trees and the aspen.. With their gold coins hanging free.. There's so much of Autumn beauty on every North woods tree. It would seem that the Creator.. Knowing Winter is at hand, has touched with his own magic... Forests in the Northern land. He knows that soon come ...snow storms.. the lakes and streams will freeze.. And Winter's icy fingers, sprinkle diamonds on the trees. He leaves us still the grandeur of cedar, spruce and pine, the hemlock and the tamarack, and makes His sun to shine. The snow may lie in beauty, and Winter cover all, But we'll still remember Autumn,,,,, And the glory of the Fall.

Wow, couldn't have been a better week (my lab section was on Tuesday) for a Forest Ecology lab in the Porkies (colors and weather wise)! Colors were at peak or just a little past the entire way there. Coming home today to Wisconsin the Central UP has alot of bare trees already, but the Florence-Northern Marinette area was great - lots of goldens mixed in with the green pines.
