Fear the Deere

Brian, pics please, I would really like to see what you have there. Regardless, nice find for $100! I can only imagine that it has to be in pretty good shape being as it's only seen 2 winters of use.

Perhaps I can add to Gary's instructions above, If your taking the picture with your smartphone you can email it from your phone as an attachment to yourself on your PC. Yes your picture will have to be saved to your PC's picture file. To post it in the thread, select the "insert image" icon located on the left of the smiley face in the toolbar that appears within the thread you are posting, a drop down will appear, click within the box that drops down that says "insert image or click here". When you click within the box this will open a window for "this PC" where you can select the "pictures file", click on the picture you wish to insert. This will have to repeated for each picture you wish to attach to the thread. I hope that helps. If not, my apologies.
I post pics right from my iPhone just need to be in your browser then access pics. I don’t own a PC

I'm curious how he cut and shaped this foam. The last time I tried anything like that it turned out to be a horrible mess! The talent on this project is world class for all involved. (y)
The skill of these upholstery guys never ceases to amaze me. They do stuff I can’t imagine ever being able to do and they make it look routine.

This guy that did my seat has been doing John Deere snowmobile seats for years and is considered somewhat of a legend in that respect. I suspect he has probably done several for every year/model that John Deere built.

I’m thinking he might use some templates to mark up an initial pattern on the foam block but I almost guarantee he does it free-hand from there. It would be fun to watch him work sometime.

Well gang, the Deere has been released into the wild. It’s always kind of an odd feeling when it hits you that it’s really finished,

I took it for a test spin and damn, it’s fun to ride! I can’t explain why these sleds ride so well for a leafer. The seat change moves the rider position higher and more forward and makes a huge difference in how the sled fits the rider. I like it.

I’m sure I’ve said this about every sled I’ve ever finished but this might be my favorite sled. There just something about a John Deere. I hope I’ve done the brand proud.

Since this is a wrap, I’ll leave you with an extra couple of shots.

Thanks guys! I’m glad you approve of the end result.

This sled was passed over multiple times in favor of other projects but it waited patiently for its turn. Maybe I had a master plan (doubtful) because if this turns out to be the final project, this sled was the perfect choice. It would be hard to top how rewarding this build was.

Not to worry though, I’ll have no trouble finding things to do, even in the next couple of weeks. The 250 TX has been plagued with carburetor problems for some time and I’d like to get that back into running order. Also, I need to give the 340 TX a good going-over because the Boondocks Inn has a hundred miles of vintage rides planned for the end of the month. I’ve had the 340 longer than any other vintage sled and it’s the one I trust the most to get me home.

Hard as it is to believe, these project threads go back to the days of the Make-A-Wish sleds and that was over a dozen years ago. Some of you have been following them for that long and that’s impressive. But whether it’s been 12 years or only recently, you all need to know how much I appreciate your taking time out of your day to check in or comment. I thank you.
