Rp7x, remember Ross Ming auto shop/small engines? In the 60’s and 70’s I would wrench on engines and cars then life got in the way.

Merry Christmas Everyone!
Motor is back together. Guess it doesn’t look all that much different but it does have new crank seals and motor mount bushings. Still has nice blue spark so she’ll run once she’s back in the sled.
While it isn’t a very exciting motor to look at, it’s a reliable little powerplant and will get the job done. It’s been said that these Kioritz motors were some of the heaviest motors of the day and I can confirm that. These babies are a handful to lug around!

To use Mezz’s term, the project has moved on to a new phase.
Motor is in and everything it needed to run is hooked up.
I shouldn’t have been nervous about firing this one up for the first time, especially since it was running before I started messing with it. Maybe that’s why I was nervous, but she lit up on the second pull, settled into a nice steady 1600 RPM idle and laid down that haze of blue smoke a lot of us enjoy.
Need to mount the air box but that’s about it on the motor end of things. Next focus will be on the secondary clutch, which needs new buttons. Then install it and mount a belt to see how the clutches work together. Guess it’s obvious I won’t make my planned completion date of tomorrow night but I’ll take where it’s at.

Thanks guys! I am looking forward to clearing the last few mechanical items off the list and getting back to the hood work. It’s hard to believe it was around the end of September that the painting was finished on it and it has sat that long without anything done to it since. It will take a while to finish as the headlight assemblies I have are a mess and will need a lot of work.
We still have snow but it’s set up like concrete and there’s none in the near-term forecast. It will be cooling down big-time this weekend and be sub-zero at night for about a week. If the U.P. has a similar cool-down it could mean some fresh stuff for any of you that are heading up there in a week or so.
Here’s hoping you guys have a great 2025 and as Gary says:

I decided to post one final shot of the lower chassis without the hood, since a few things have happened since the most recent posts: air box is on, both clutches and belt mounted, belt guard and bumper are also cleaned up, painted, and installed and a few other minor items/adjustments completed.
It turned out that both clutches needed work, secondary needed cleaning and new ramp buttons and the primary was sticking due to rust accumulation on the internal shaft that was preventing the spider assembly from moving freely. After talking it apart and doing some fine sanding and Scotchbrite polishing, it works nicely.
Some of you may notice that I removed the primary clutch cover. This was something that John Deere had Comet add to the basic clutch. Not sure of the purpose but the clutch functions just fine without it and the John Deere guys say the clutch runs cooler.
So, with the lower chassis basically done, it’s down to just the hood and seat. Will probably start on finishing up the hood on Friday, as I “have” to fish tomorrow.

You won't get any argument from me. The appeal of these sleds has stood the test of time.
Hood came together, sometimes kicking and screaming (or maybe that was me). Makes a big difference I think.
