BobRoss that's the thing tho there are plenty of aftermarket cans and pipes that do not exceed the decibel limit and are close to factory sounding. Owning a can/piped sled is not illegal what so ever as long as they meet the requirement. My buddy storm has a DG can and it has passed the test and many times and it's an old performance can. I think alot of this issue is strongly based off of the guys who have to ride past house wrapping the throttle like they own the town or at every single stop sign. If everyone was as responsible as 99%of the guys on the site there prob wouldn't be any issues. One of the things that did crack me up the other day is I watched the msa first little ride of the year video and the Polaris close to the end was def canned and def was WAY louder than anything else in the group. Oh well it is what it is. Follow the law and you'll always be safe respect law enforcement and you won't be harrased.

Here is my experience with a so called quiet can....I think it would pass the 4000 rpm test no problem but in the upper rpm ranges it cried and growled quite a bit more pitchy and there is what I believe the locals and land granters have a problem with.
I would agree that once the valves open up, she does make some more noise than OEM. But, like I said in my previous post, around housing I try to keep out of the throttle. Always do I? no, but I try to.
I don't live in the UP and live in farm country. Not nearly as many houses or trails running on private land. Almost our entire trail system where I live is just groomed ditches.
Some sleds are a little loud and we need to police ourselves or we're going to lose what we have.
So I live right on a trail north of almost right between Hancock and Calumet and while it really doesn't ever seem excessively loud while I'm inside my home I can see where some people would. And when I'm outside it is pretty obnoxious.
I also have a cabin out by Twin Lakes, I'm there right now, and when we drove out here and turned in by Krupp's a sled with a loud can passed over the road behind us, about 100 yards away, startling loud.
So this summer I bought my 15 year old a 2018 RMK 800 Pro, no can is going on it. The sled rips just fine, amazing actually. And yeah, I've gotten some guff for getting him a 800 but he's one of those kids precocious in things powered by gasoline engines. First real ATV when he was 5, like a fish in water.
Enjoy the snow.

Yeah, had some really close calls on those "roosting up, and out of no where" deals!!! Scary!!!! POLARIS DAN runs at night to avoid this. Maybe I'll have to give that some thought???????

The mountain wanna-bes that ride within a 3 mile radius of wherever they’re staying are a real safety hazard when they ride perpendicular across trail 3, busy hitting all of their deep pow 100 feet off of the trail. Real bad in the area everyone is talking about in the past few posts - Parkview, Mosquito, Krupps, etc.
The upside of these clowns’ behavior is that they mostly all have sled wraps that look like something out of a gay pride parade, and their gear often makes them resemble a human highlighter, so they are easy to spot.

Last year the DNR were sitting by Krupps and pinching all kinds of loud can riders, I heard them really complaining up a storm about it, "all the money we spend here....this is the last time we are coming here...." etc.
The DNR gets such a bad rap. Like a guy the use to stop by my cabin, who thankfully doesn't anymore, complained, "yeah I hate that CO. He stopped me and my son while we were out deer hunting and ruined our hunt. We were road hunting and he pulled us over and went way overboard, checked everything and he even made me pour out my beer"

Living in st Germain with sled trails all around and utv route just opened and loving motor sports . I would rather hear loud cans in winter like I do all the time vs a loud rzr or maverick that ride by all summer long now. Rather hear a nice sounding 2 stroke than a Harley or a 4 stroke side by side. But can say there are some crappy pretty strait threw 2 smokes that sound like crap and then are usually the younger kids thinking there cool vs just looking for a good note with a slp trail can
Was staying at the Franklin Square Inn New Years weekend and the morning we were leaving some older guy (clearly a cross country skier) starts in on me about “my friends” on snowmobiles...ripping around with really loud sleds at 3am.
I defused it fast when I told them they are not “my friends” and I despise those a-holes..
Point is- these are the type of people who will constantly attend town hall meetings and get sleds/utvs/atvs shut down in areas..

Brad460 is dead nuts on there will always be those people who will not be happy till sledding is shut down. My uncle listens to it about the 4wheelers and dirt bikes every single year and the side by sides are what's really starting to tick off locals. I stay pretty up to date on all forms of off-road as it's my passion and the fact that stage 3 maverick exhaust is a dang straight pipe blows my mind and yet all these @$$ clowns think it's so awesome FALSE you are not awesome your an @$$hole, we were up walleye fishing in June and we heard what I honestly thought was a Honda civic with no exhaust screaming for dear life well hour later we ran out of minnows so decided time to go grab a pizza and bait. To our surprise it was a maverick and he was just leaving not only was it straight piped had a sound system and unlike any decent human being this guy proceeds to crank the volume to the max Rev the stupid thing couple times he ripped off and sprayed us with gravel. People like that are the problem for our town. Sleds are almost NEVER brought up.
