Frozen trailer doors

How do you guys get them un-stuck? I usually take a blow torch to them but last night even the blow torch would stay lit.

Anything to put on door or seals to prevent it?

WD-40....light coating of grease or oil....silicone spray....on all the rubber gaskets and/or metal contact points BEFORE you go. :cool:

If it is the locks freezing up, a small bottle of lock de-icer from the hardware store works well. I agree with Steve on the wd-40 on the gaskets to help prevent those from freezing up.

I always remove the pad locks but after we load the sleds I spray a antifreeze 50/50 on the door seals and have never had any issues.

If you have silicone spray go with that first better for rubber oils can sometimes affect the rubber.

I had big problems with trailer sitting outside all year and then freezing rain and snow on top freezing everything solid. This year using silicon spray on everything and even in this cold everything opened right up. Not sure how often to apply I've done it once so far this season. My openings have rubber weather striping moldings. Even with lubing up the locks I seem to be replacing them every other year. Tried the baggie thing too, they crack or hold moisture inside and then rust even more.

I use cooking oil on the rubber parts of the doors
When I used locks, i use to slice open tennis balls and put them over lock after i siliconed sprayed them.
Worked well

Locks just keep an honest thief honest. If someone wants to get into your trailer, they will no matter what lock is placed on the trailer. It's simply a time deterrent.

We had froze door issues this past week... I try to keep those areas clean & dry . It was hard because down in the bottom of MI... it rained for 1-2 days prior the freeze... tried WD... works for a while. I use Beaver Slick teflon, company called Beaver Research out of KZoo .

I use this on the locks , hindges, seals, ect... ect... and always bring bolt choppers ... as an extra back up. This stuff is pretty universal , commercial food grade product ???? ( I believe ?? )
I don't know how to find the sales rep ... but a little WEB search should start to reveal some sources ...
I love this stuff.

If you know somebody, please send them my way. Maybe they can get the broken key out of the lock for me.

I used both WD-40 and silicone last night. It got pretty cold and this afternoon, the door opened fine.

All great ideas.
