Going Back to Polaris Next Year

After a several year absence, it looks like I'll be logging some seat time on a Polaris next year.

This is pretty much Snoluver1's fault. Scrounging for a few parts for the Make-A-Wish sled gave me way too much time in the boneyards. I guess the rusted steel, bent and corroded aluminum, and cracked fiberglass finally got to me. I had to get back in the game.

Since it would be conflict of interest to consider myself eligible for the raffle, I had to implement plan B. This is the result. Hoping to make Waconia next year and a couple of northern rides, maybe one of them will be in the U.P.

I'm hoping for a trip to Waconia next year, also. Next years feature sled is Scorpion, my favorite. I think it is the same weekend as the Ride-In, so I'll have a tough choice to make next year.

Nice find, by the way.

They definitely can become addictive. These models seem to be pretty popular and go fast when they're put up for sale so they are kind of hard to come by. I didn't dare come right out and say that I also found a 79 440. Not quite sure what to do with the 440 yet, just couldn't pass it up - price was right. It needs more work than the 340 so I'm going to focus on getting the 340 ready. Not planning a full resto for next year. Just not enough time. Will do some cleanup and maybe pick up one new hood (although I would like to ditch the red seat cover).

Scorpions were pretty cool. A lot of us remember the lavender metalflake. There was a bubble nose at Waconia last year with a pipe the size of 18 wheeler exhaust. Not quiet.

Bummer about the schedule. That's going to be a tough one. Waconia is the mother of all vintage events.

Addictive. What are you thinking! It's a disease. We've got over 25 vintage sleds that are fully restored or excellent originals. 10-Rupps 11-Polaris 2-Chaps, 1-Yamaha 1-Merc 1-Scorpion

Don't think I'll ever hit 25! Even now, with my 3 semi-modern sleds and 3 vintage sleds (yes, I also have an older Ski-Doo stashed away) I think I'm pushing the limit. The missus has hinted that something has to go. She didn't specify whether it was man or machine but I got the drift.

Maybe we could have a little John Dee reunion at Waconia. I was there 5 years ago and traded a Scorpion for 2 Kitty Kats and some cash. I wish I could have just bought the Kittys that time without trading. I regret getting rid of that one.

I have a chance at a Diablo Rouge. I don't know much about them, but they look cool. It sounds like it is in rough shape, but if I can get it real cheap it could be a future project, after my dads Sidewinder.

Yeah jr, if some of us end up in Waconia next year maybe we can work something up. I'll try to PM you sometime early Jan. and let you know my plans. If I go back next year, I'll definitely have to look up Ezra since I didn't get it done this year. Guess I could always try sneaking in across the lake. For sure I'd meet him then.

If nothing else, the Diablo Rouge should get some kind of prize for one of the more impressive names. I see a lot of them in the pics from the Keeweenaw vintage run. Not sure of the parts situation but if the core stuff is there, it might be worth a shot.

Took the 440 out for a short spin on the grass tonight. It's running a pair of 38 mm carbs so it jumps pretty good when you crack the throttle. Sort of de-thatched my lawn in the process.

Nice score Skiroule!! They look to be in great shape! If you need any help with anything just say the word. I would be more than happy to lend a hand in any way I can.

As far as the raffle goes, I really don't think too many people would hymn and haw about a conflict of interest if you happened to win it. I think anybody that follows this sight knows darn well John is a man of integrity, and the raffle would never be "fixed". I say buy a bunch of tickets and the best of luck to you!!!

with the vest comes free lunch a few adult beverage's stored in fish house/club house. and usualy a T shirt of the yr.
or we could hook up at my house and do a JD vintage ride to waconia prob 45min to a hr on old iron 25 min on modern alloy.

Thanks (and welcome back!) but be careful what you offer. You might come home from work someday and find a truck with Minnesota plates in your driveway with a whole load of parts to be worked on. Actually, the 340 is pretty much in riding shape the way it sits. I’ll do some light restoration on it this summer but it won’t get the Snoluver1 treatment. I might move the hood to the 440 and get a new one for the 340 (you know how I am about hoods :)). The 440 needs some work to really be trailworthy but it has potential. If it needs engine work, I know where to go.

Both of these offers have appeal but I really like the idea of using your location as a JD member mobilization point. I’ve driven through the general area around your compound and it looks like a nice area for a trail ride. If I’m going to be in town, I’ll definitely be getting in touch. An hour with old iron – does that include repair time?
