Gonna be a good winter....

15 inches of rain here in central Wisconsin in the middle of summer translates into 150 inches of snow in the middle of winter, right!

At least we hope so!

Se mn rocks

I live in houston county. The trail system that we have here is amazing. Tight and twistys to open fields. Plus good pit stops every direction. I have put 3k miles on for the last 3 years. Nothing better then sleding in bluff country. When there is good snow at home I don't even think about the U.P. I do usually make 2 trips up there though.......

I live between Mankato and Faribault(Madison Lake) and we had a great winter in So. Mn. Some of the best snow and trails was SW of Mankato toward St. James down to Worthington. Great trails, groomers and base. Between the UP and locally close to 1500 miles. Hoping for another repeat this year.

Amen to that! We have a cabin in Lansing, IA and we always leave and head toward S.E. MN and hit Houston Co. and the surrounding area. Great trail system and riding in the Mississippi Valley bluffs is second to none! We put on 800 miles just from Saturday - Tuesday of Presidents Day weekend. The snow was deep and plentyful, and the trails were perfect. However, by Friday it was melting and the season was over shortly after that.

SEMN had some great snow last year. Not the best like 00-01, but very close. The Xmas Eve no storm we had that was mostly rain didnt help.

SEMN has a lot of open fields (Stewartville to Hayfield is almost a straight shot 20 miles of nothing but open field) and there are the bluffs from Chatfield to Lanesboro all the way to the Mississippi. Granted they are not treelined like the UP or the arrowhead, but I love being able to ride out of my garage without trailering.

I'm looking forward to seeing what we have in store this year. If we don't get the consistent snows, I'll trailer to where there is snow.

i read in the Ironwood paper that record warm Lake Superior temps this summer could bring heavier snows this winter! John said in his journal that the lake has been warm as well...bring on the snow!

My friend has a house in Waldorf, and the majority of the trails in that area run the ditches, fence lines, and low areas. When it snows, the snow really accumulates where the trails set up. And when you get the late season dumpers, it is drift busting heaven. I hit one 8 footer hard, not realizing it was bare ground on the other side. In this age of instant internet video posting, I am glad there isn't one of me flipping head over teakettle over the handlebars.

I have heard the theory that the larger the acorns and walnuts the worse the winter is going to be. It is Mother nathure's way of providing for the squirrels and such.

I hope that holds to be true because they are huge this year.

Sounds good to me, our sledding here in NC Wisconsin has been good the last couple of years, but with only marginal snow, lots of snow once again would be wonderful, good lord willing
