Indy read a ALL Nic's posts in thread. Does the shoe fit? lol Just kidding ya abit.:)

:p Indy's riding one of these "$1500 sleds with liability" I'd rather have a 10 yr old sled than a 1 yr old, at this rate, the 10 yr old sled will last 3 times as long if they are both 2 strokes. Well, Indy's sled now has 6300 miles. The only things it NEEDED this year was a motor mount (free from rp7x, thanks again) and new gaskets due to antifreeze leak (roughly $75 w/price of thermostat) by now, one of these "1 yr old sleds" with full coverage would've blown up twice (if it was a 2-stroke) Not trying to attack nobody, just telling the truth and giving my 2 cents about "reliable sleds" I would have no problem buying another sled worth the same amount as mine because I know I won't have many problems, and if i do, I'll know i'll be able to fix it. I would take my sled or any ole 10 yr ole sled up north if that means i had the chance to go up north. Most kids at my school (acatzl550 ;) ) are running around on really nice sleds but never leave the county. I would rather ride a 10 yr old sled if that means I can go up north with my dad and enjoy a lot nicer weekend than what i would down here riding around on plowed fields. Wow this is one of my longest posts!

Hopefully people don't take this the wrong way- but my thought- the economy. And I don't just mean fewer riders overall. I think a lot of younger folks can't afford it. With the cost of machines, and fuel, and lodging. It's an easy $500+ weekend just for lodging and food/gas for one. Not to mention the intial sled. I certainly didn't have 5K (or more) for a decent machine when I was 22 years old. Insurance, etc. Not to generalize (and although I'm 33, I still think I'm 25)- but that younger crowd is usually the group that is riding too fast for conditions, drinking, etc. Not going to lie and say I was never a part of that group, because I was. So my thought is that the slow economy, the higher costs- are probably keeping the numbers of folks in this group out of the game for now. Just a guess. And I'm not trying to slam anyone in particular. Don't get all defensive and tell me how you're 22 and you have a million dollars and never drink. That's great. But it's not the norm. So that's my hypothesis.

Indy read all of it: Young & (riding too fast for conditions) lol

Well I almost got killed today there was a creek that I knew was coming up, and it's a 90 degree drop down and 90 degrees back up. If you go to slow you get stuck in water, too fast like me and you hit it HARD. If i had the right, i'd take a can of orange or red spray paint all around it but I might get in trouble for doing that.

Well apparently you do! At times I do too but I'm an old fart. :)

come on up Indy. I'll give you 1/2 price lodging, seriously. $15 a person a night. I like your drive and enthusiasm on older sleds. I myself drive an 12 yr old sled with close to 10K miles on it, just keeps going. Sure it needs repairs and normal maintenance but I don't mind, it's part of the game. Also builds good knowledge base

Do it kid!

Indy..that's quite responsible for you to mark the hazzard with paint. I'd do it, and worry about the the bi%%chin' later. You might save a life and wouldn't that feel good!

Be interesting to see what the registration numbers are this year. I was out on lake Winnebago today and I didn't see 10 sleds. I think sledding is down big time more because of $$ than snow.

I was going 45 mph. This swamp is completly straight for 2 miles long. I do not think 45 mph was an unreasonable speed :p

Indy,

I started reading this Thread and thought that we met you on the trail right before the bridge in Fremont on Friday just before Noon. My buddy (riding a Red & white Polaris 600 Classic, (I was on a Blue 600 Classic) hit a manhole cover an ripped his carbide runner off his ski and you were nice enough to give us great directions down to the Polaris dealer in Fremont.

He bought a couple of Woodies, we replaced one and were an our way in 1 hour, nice people.

Ironically I ripped one about two hours later and his spare came in very handy as we swapped that one out in about 30 minutes and were back on the trail. We rode from Stevens Point to Fremont north to Shawno over to Wausau and then back down to Point that day and logged 285 miles. We usually plan our loops well before hand but not knowing the trails in Central Wisconsin we did get turned around a few times (nothing serious) and arrived back at our hotel at Midnight.

A great day of riding, mostly good trails and a lot a great to excellent trails. Also had an issue with a head gasket leak on my Buddy's sled halfway throught the trip so we had to deal with that but made it back no problem.

I agree with you on the older sleds (I drive a 2001 Polaris 600 Classic, 10618 miles, no motor work yet and running real strong) Maintain it and they give you great experiences.

Thank you for the directions if it was you (I noticed your white Polaris from a picture on the site)

Thanks again

Wasn't me, you would've remembered my mohawk if it was. Where exactly in Fremont did you hit it?

It was right in the middle, maybe 30 ft into the trail on the north side of the Highway (don't remember which Hwy?) on the West side of the bridge.

I am sure it is more exposed by now but when we hit it wasn't even noticeable. We went back and found just one side of it barely showing through the snow.

Read your reports and agree with the conditions that you posted. Not bad for the last week of February in Central WI. Beats looking at brown grass.

Hope there is a couple weeks left to the season!
