Gonna need a passport too. It sure would be a great trip though.

you don't need a full fledged passport (which everyone should have) they have some sort of other basic type passport. You let such a thing stand between you and great riding? lol Canada riding is a whole different experience. Guess I am spoiled. Those who have rode there know what a great experience it is. I get Wawa trails and power lines all to myself again? snow is 2 -3 cases of beer deep. (thats how it is measured up there......it's metric dontcha know).

We are working on a Canada trip currently. Seems the addiction has put me in withdrawl. Looking at district 14, most of the trails were open around Timmons. Last ditch effort to get the fix. Almost went to Grand Marias today, had the sleds loaded, a budd called and said there was a ridable pocket in the woods , he is there now. Then he said his wife is up there and she is done riding ????? To save face and prevent his wife from hating me ( she wants to go home ) we scrubbed it due to several reasons. 1) limited snow and 2) I don't want his wife hating me ( I seem to have that effect on women ) .... ( LOL ) My wife just wants me out of the house ( no lie ) I'm just 1 big teenager ( with a bad disposition ) she has to deal with. Think I'll start singing " OH CANADA "......

I have to do something before " ubee " starts posting the snow pics from his brothers camp again this year....

Gord has saved me a few times. They are not open on Sat. or Sunday anymore. Wawa is not doing so well with the mines closed and logging demand has been down so Dubruerville mill is closed more than open. I sure would like to get up to Hawk Junction for a teddy burger. Trail 3 and some of 7 is not groomed but still marked, makes for some nice boondocking adventures without getting lost. I like riding the power lines that go west off the Magpie, north to North west of the Northern Lights . This area offers everything the Snowies offers but the wind or the widowmaker.

I get more and more intrigued by that area everytime someone posts about it. I always thought on Ontario as high speed, high mileage, smooth and flat...i.e., fun but expensive with gas prices these days, particularly in Canada.

What do you mean it offers everything the snowies offers...is there that much boondocking?

On that link it says enjoy wawa's trails before they are gone forever...are they closing a bunch of trails up there?

Trails are maintained by trail permits. Nobody is going up there to ride for various reasons = no money to groom. I have rode their groom trails for years, maybe seen 1 sled going the other way all day on perfectly groomed trails. Off Trails, it is insane how much there is. I guess most americans are just not educated in what Canada snowmobiling has to offer. Gas is not an issue if your passion is snowmobiling. Order the hamburger and not the Prime Rib at dinner there is gas for the day right there. Give up the cancer sticks, wow more gas money available, skip the movie theater and watch it on netflix, etc. "It is all about priorities". I do 3-4 out west trips a year, I find the money one way or the other. Same with Canada riding. I do not do Exotic trips to warm climates, spend lavishly on weekend Dining events or throw money away on Golf or Sporting event tickets that I could care less who wins or loses. This is how a snowmobiler (me) can find the money to do the trips that are important to them. Point I am trying to make is, "If it is important to you then you will find a way". Some people walk the walk and others talk the talk.

We wish we could all be like you polaris1. You must have a pretty huge helmet to ram your fat head in.

Hats off to you Polaris1. I do the same type of things you do. Change a few of my habits like bottled water, fill a jug before I leave for work. Pack my own lunch and snacks and soft drinks, unbelievable how much money a guy can save. I guess some people don't get it. Shame on them.

That wasn't nice ! What did he say to offend you ? I do the the same thing ( sort of ) . People head south in the winter, I head north.

Is it about $4.50 right now up there? I thought it would be higher. Did they lose much from the warm-up like the UP?

Great area. I have fond memories went 3 times to Canada with members of my snowmobile club. We went with Come Play in the Snow tour.

Unfortunately, logistics aren't the same. First, I sold my trailer since I didn't use it 3 years in a row. I keep everything in a storage unit in Wakefield, MI. right across from Sunday Lake.

Sold all the Jeeps with the hitches now have vehicles with good gas milage. I have problems finding people to ride with when I go to the UP let alone Canada. My wife trashed her thumb on a Canadian trip (6 days and hundreds of miles it nows goes numb). She won't go and yes the trails are great, smooth less people which means I don't want to ride solo.

This seems to be the third year in a row the majority of the Lake Superior snowbelt produced a shorter season of good riding or any riding. The only good thing is I went early and often from early jan to feb 12th.

Too bad I'm typing this post and not up snowmobiling in the Western UP and Northern, Wisconsin.

I hear ya! I would never ride solo in Northern Ontario. I am not big on just 2 of us off trail either. Need at least 4guys with good equipment for this sort of riding. It is pure unforgiving wilderness. And I love it. When ever we talk about snowmobiling as a group Canada always comes up. example: My wife blows her sled up on the Magpie resevoir, kids think their mom is the baddest mom in snowmobiling, the time I near hit a moose, The engine rebuild 90 miles from nowhere, Life at Halfway Haven, The lumber mill tour in Dubreuilville, The weird looking wood inside Ernies and how everything including the fire dept. is named after Ernie in Missanabie, Hornpayne and the whole town is in one big building. The girls in Hearst, The ice fishing we did in Elliott lake, What's the big antenna/dish thing in Marathon, Texas holdum and hot tub at the Northern lights in Wawa, The make your self to home with the McDougles in Hillsport along with the sauna and flannel sheets. Crossing 33 miles of ice to go from Drummond Island to Thessalon and not seeing land, The time hwy 17 got closed and the kids got to ride with Dad one more day. Memories are made. And friendships are made. money well spent.
