Happy Trail Opening Day BUT.....

Tomorrow our trails OFFICIALLY open in most places in our state....most don't have enough snow on them to ride yet. Soon they will and when that happens PLEASE be safe and ride responsibly.

This year the state removed a bunch of signs from our trail system. SLOW DOWN because you won't have signs telling you what's ahead like years before.

Remember YOU'RE not the only one on the trail so stay right and remember there are families riding so consider that when passing others. Have a GREAT season and let's hope everyone makes it home safe and sound.

The following snowmobile trail signs will be removed:

Bridge Ahead
Chevron
Deer Crossing
Drift Area
Narrow Bridge
Narrow Trail
Trail Crossing
Truck Traffic
Two Way Trail
Winding Trail

Chicago Boy, it is part of a new program. Here is a couple of links. The first one is fishweb, it shows some comment by people and an overview and the second one is msa, their main page has
all the info. They believe it will slow people down.

IMO, i think the bridge, sharp curve chevrons and trail crossing signs should still be on the trail. I kind of think there important but looks like we will just have to adjust and see what happens this year. Ride safe!

People die every year, it will happen again this year. If they really think its going to slow people down they are crazy. I like to get going good on straight aways but i always try to slow down in turns and tight areas, im not perfect sometimes i have the adrenaline flowin a little too much and find myself going too fast into a turn also, it usually happens to me once or twice a year and i scared the crap out of someone last year and felt terrible about that. But what pointed out to me to slow down was these certain signs being there, not these certain signs not being there!! I think it is absolutely ridiculous and very dangerous to take these signs down! People will not slow down they want to go fast, but I know i always make sure to slow down when i see signs saying there are turns and other hazards coming up (except that once or twice a year i get caught up in how fast im ridin).

I have broke trail on trail 13 from Greenland to Twinn Lakes for the last 9 years. I had problems finding the trail with the signs gone. I missed more turns this last weekend then I have in the last 40 years of riding. We where going 10 to 20 mph. You come to a tee intersection and do not know which way to go. Riders are going to get lost in a strom or at night in the vast U.P. This has to be put back into the thinking bank at the top. You will have rides loss and killed by the way the trails are signed..

We as rides talked and will have to add are own signs. I will bet even the groomer drives will miss corners now.. Just my 2 cent...

It's all about saving money not safety they figure if they don't put them up they won't have to be replaced when the signs are wore out

Confidence markers (small orange diamond shaped signs) were not part of the signs removed from the list for this season. So it sounds like that section of trail needs to be gone through again and closer attention paid to placement of confidence markers so that there is not that confusion.

Just my 2 cents.

I was afraid of that but needed someone to ride & then feedback how it was working which you did. Maybe the groom will help but breaking trail no groom then which way does the trail go has to be difficult without at least a few markers. If I have trouble already have pink & blue ribbons loaded in bags that I will hang so at least I know a hazzad ahead.

Trail 3 from Bruce to Mass is just as bad if not worse. Probably took a wrong turn a good 15 times this past weekend breaking trail. Lots of 3 or 4 way intersections from logging roads that are unmarked, just keep riding and if you dont see the next sign within a mile or 2 turn around!

Are the big 10" X 20" Yellow arrow signs installed on the 90 degree curves or are those signs still on backorder. It would not surprise me the least to hear those signs are not up.
