Hayward?

I was also in Cable and stayed at Lakewoods last weekend. Trail rode all day Fri and took in the Weenie Roast and festivities on Sat. Trail conditions were surprisingly very good. First attempted heading towards Red Deer Lodge (forget the trail, but was an offshoot of 8). It was pretty bumpy and we turned around and headed the other way on 8 (smooth) to Clam Lake and then up to Mellen and looped back. Only glitch was a closed trail and detour (single track and no signage) through the Chequamegon forest. Had Hit freshly groomed trail from Mellen until that point. The festivities were good, but the fact that they split up the outlaw drags (Four seasons resort) and speed runs and other drags (Lakewoods) made it somewhat of a cluster. Hope they can patch up their differences and have it all in one place, which will make it more convenient for racers and spectators combined. Either way, we're going back next year.
With the new snow coming, I think you'll be golden if heading near the area for sledding this week yet.

In my opinion rice lake and Barron will be to far south. Barron county was closed last weekend. If you want to enjoy the ride more drive a little further north it will be worth it.

Thanks for the info on what was going on this past Saturday snowaddict. Was wondering why there was no outlaws at Lakewoods, but that explains it. We saw the other tents at four seasons, but instead of checking it out we went on the trails for a few hours till the awards ceremony at Lakewoods. I hope they can patch things up too, the kids missed the outlaws.

I'm wrong, Barron is open, but listed as poor. If their saying it's poor I would probably have to take their word and expect the worst.

If he did stay in Barron, could head east to rusk county. Head up to Birchwood, down towards Werehauser, island later back to chetek. Those trails have been fantastic the last month and with new snow might be there again. Tons of good riding in that area.

Accumulating snow went north of Hwy 8 with areas just west of Hayward getting most amounts. I'm leaving tomorrow morning from Cameron and saddle bagging north for two days. If I was coming from Indiana I would start out just north of Rice Lake, perhaps Birchwood or Minong, they both have a little hotels right by gas and right across street from trail. Several trails to take you north and west

If you head north make sure you stop at Garmisch. It's between cable and clam lake not to far from Lakewoods

Sounds like we covered a lot of the same trails. You're local in Loretta was half right it appears trail 25 from tuscobia to intersection of trail 40 is closed. You need to take trail 40 north and then take 25N, from there to clam lake double groomed. We went up to brule/iron river as well they had good base but no new snow. northern cutoff for new snow and grooming was south of a line from Solon springs to Glidden. We put on 570 wed-fri 4pm and 90% trails were freshly groomed. Warm weather is quickly taking its toll. We ran 8 counties and they all did a great job, with Barron, Rusk, and Ashland getting best grade for grooming
