I picked up a Contour Roam off Amazon for $137 shipped. Its waterproof up to 3ft the way it sits. Easy on/record. Small, light and supposedly rugged. The cons are there is no screen on it, so you have to be hooked to a cpu to see what you recorded. Can get a mount for the goggle strap, or you can go for the tele-tubbie look on top of the helmet.

Its HD, 1080, 720 tall and normal. Rotating lens with laser alignment. 30 fps. Its definately not the top of the line, but I think its a great first helmet cam. Supposed to be 4 hr battery life. I did an hour ride with it on the rzr last month. Worked great.

Prolly find it even cheaper on black friday or cyber monday.

IDK if its any better than a go pro or not, but I dont like the design of the go pro personally.

well I got a contour last yr it was ok except u have to upload your videos to there web site then u can watch .
this yr I got the liquid image goggles they kick ars over the contour.
the liquid image has a blue led light that flashes slow when recording and on solid when on and ready to record so u can see what is going on.
uses micro sd cards removable battery so u can have 2 if u want.
u can plug in to tv or computer and watch off goggles no upload needed.
I got he 720 set cheep like 108 shipped to the house and they come with 2 sets of winter lenses.
If u shop around u can get same set for about 120 but some places are 240
way nicer than having some thing hanging on your helmet and the pic is great.
I can dig through some stuff and have a hardly used 720 contoured for sale say 50 bucks

GoPro Hero 2 is $100 off making it $199. You can find it if you google black friday deals. It comes with a waterproof case up 197 ft. if you do water sports. I just purchased the latest edition of GoPro the Hero 3 Black edition. We use the GoPro for snowmobiling, hunting, wheeling and scuba diving. IMO, it's the best camera/camcorder on the market for the money.

I have the Contour Roam. You do not have to upload to watch, That is just one option. A slow one too. I have my set to play back in Quicktime format. I like the easy on and off and the design. But I think the GoPro shoots better quality.

The Go Pro hero 2 is a great sports camera. Waterproof down to 197 feet and freeze proof. Has all kinds of mounting options. You can get them for around $149$ .now since they have a hero 3 coming out. Good Luck. Scott

I have the liquid image goggles and really like them. I took lots of video out west and it worked great. the only problem i had was on trail rides the lens would get foggy with trail spray and you would have to wipe it off with your hand. The best thing is no set up just turn it on and go.

GO PRO II i have tried the EPIC and one another they are a waste of money go with th GO PRO the best money 149.00 great price. It is very easy to use and great videos.

I have two Go Pros and enjoy them both. I find that none of these little cameras have very good mikes/audio pick up but the GO Pros do work well enough to use without a remote microphone. And swapping out SD cards is easy. FYI, use the GOOD batteries, the really expensive ones, or you will run them dead in no time at all. Think Lithium. These last and work well. Especially in cold environments.

I have two ContourHD units. Ezra stated that you need to upload vids to Contour's site, not true. I copy the file from the memory stick directly to my computer and view it on my PC. I have used Pinnacle and Adobe video software to edit the footage. I like the "Small Profile" of the ContourHD vs the GoPro. Both do a stellar job at taking video.

I have had both the Gopro and the Contour Roam (I just got the +2) the Contour is far better for ease of use. You can turn it on and off with gloves on. It has a laser for alignment too. You can get a side profile mount for your helmet so you don't look like a goon with a Gopro sitting 6" off the top of your head. I rode with a buddy last year that had his Go pro keep flying off from hitting trees. The video is very similar with both, but I will say the GoPro is better in low light/evening conditions. With the Contour, you know it's on and recording. Every unedited gopro video starts with "is the light flashing?" the 1080 is nice, but I usually stick with 720 at 60fps for action shots.
I had the original Gopro too when it first came out. The technology has came a loooooong way.

I have a GOPRO and took it to Tog last year and the videos are amazing. There are a ton of mount options that you can purchase if you want to use it for other stuff such as motorcycle ridin or sporting events. I am very happy with it, but then again I never had a Contour so I cannot compare the 2.
