Helmet Cams?

Very good video and riding. You don't suck at all like Byrn71 says you do.

At the risk of exposing my lack of knowledge, I have a question: I noticed your video provides the 1080p HD play option. Mine seem to be limited to 720. Is there a trick to this?

Settings can be changed when you plug your camera into your computer. It will open the Contour Storyteller and allow you to make adjustments. It could be interesting with Byrn71 this year! He has already started the smack talk or maybe it was me starting the smack talk. As his elder I hope to keep educating him this year but it will be tough! He has almost as much passion as Indy and has some great skills! Maybe I will just watch this year.

Aaahhh…I’ll mess with it a little more this year. I’ve always sort of blown off Storyteller and just downloaded the files directly into a folder.

I still watch your March WY videos from time to time. The First 5 Days is excellent but the Next 5 Days is just plain fun to watch.

From what I’ve seen, Byrn71 is good but can he sidehill, and gather firewood at the same time? The Twig may still have a thing or two to teach him.

With the contour that does not have a removeable battery, what are you seeing for battery life? I am worried that it will not last threw the day. So I was considering getting the one with the battery you can change out. I cant remember which model is which. Thanks, Paul

I get about 4 hrs per charge. I have never recorded 4 hrs of vid sledding in one day. But I only use it out west, not trail riding.
My bud has a go pro 3 black or whatever the newest one was last winter. His battery was always dying. Maybe 2 hrs. But he always had the setting turned way up.

I have a couple year old contour. Can't remember the model as I write this though. One thing I found is the battery is terrible when it starts getting cold (below 0f). If I turn it on while its warm and go out on a cold day it will work fine....until I turn it off. Once off and cold its just a dead weight until it warms up. Above 0f it seems to work fine and I wouldn't worry about battery life.

I just want to clear this up. Greg started the smack talk, I just give it back.

Skiroule I would agree with you on the gather firewood part. haha. And yes I have a lot to learn from Greg.

Hopefully we have a long snowy winter just like last year. I can deal with the cold as long as there is snow! Is it to early to do the snow dance?

Sorry to get off topic. I have the contour roam2 and love it. Very easy to use and has good battery life. Have never been close to running out of battery, however I do not run it all day. I turn it on and off for each shot. I did have some issues with it turning on and off, so I am glad they are back in business so hopefully they can help trouble shoot. It still works fine, just have to do a minor reset before turning it on. Takes about 5 seconds. Good luck with your purchase.

Thanks! That was a fun trip for sure! My only regrets was that we did not make it over to hook up with the rest of the JD members that were out at the same time! I kind of like the way The Next 5 Days flows with the music a bit more but some of the shots in the First 5 days were cool. The amount of footage I have from those 10 days of riding is crazy and the amount of footage that is worth editing is disappointing. Gotta always remember that a wide lens on a helmet camera makes things look flatter than they really are!

In regards to battery life: Never an issue if you decide what you really want to record. When you first get a camera your maiden voyage will have long running shots that really get boring to watch except for at 2.31 min, 5 min 8.31 minutes, 12 min and so on. So you find yourself showing people what the ride was like and skipping around or just plain not being able to find the cool things you remember. I have found the Contour Roam allows me in seconds to reach up and slide the on switch forward. When on it is recording and when off well - not recording. These are the only 2 on camera controls. I never run low on battery life...

Mr. Byrn71 can say what he wants but the smack talk started this year from his newborn son! I was shocked that a child so young already had the ability to smack talk like his father (hint hint). Use caution when chasing your elders Mr. Byrn! You may find a bit of Roost heading your way! ;)

Ive never ran out of battery life with my contour. But i dont record all day, just when i think it may be interesting. My camera worked fine in last winters cold weather. Even at -12.

I vote for the contour roam also super easy to turn on and off with a glove on. Rage cams has some different lens that fit that you can get better view than whats right in front of you.Can already buy one set up. Down side on the cheap model is the mic is in front. With a windcutter deadcat ect. only good for about 55-60 mph on playback if your not into playing some stupid song over the footage. The better one has a jack for a remote mic. Since contour came back says they have something new comming
