Not sure about 800 or 850 but etec600 plugs they say 3 years 6600 miles I'm at 7k on my 13 with out a plug problem so I think 2s or 4s can't use plugs as a excuse still will agree 4s will get more miles than 2s but the etec is getting a lot closer.
I change spark plugs less then Pistons. Fouled plugs aren't an issue anymore. Valves shouldn't be either, clean them at end of season. And I use more oil than most. Never had a valve stuck.
You change oil what once a year? I change Pistons every couple years. $206 to do Pistons this season. Well, add another $10 for antifreeze.
I understand what you are saying, but you have to do maintenance on all things mechanical. Cars, sleds, boats, atvs. Its easier than changing oil on a lot of 4s.Thats good my Evinrude 150 etec every 3 years too but no where near 4s yet.

My point about RAVE is something to keep an eye on & does need yearly cleaning just would have been better without it imo
WD...I thought RAVE was the intake valve system on the 1990s Doo 2 strokes. Is that what Doo is going back to on this new 850?
Pretty sure it was called RAVE....nonetheless. ..what is WD refering to? ??That's rotary valve
Or are you referring to the 3 stage servo operated exhaust valves?

Etec is direct injected.
I am fairly confident doo had rotary valve intake instead of reed valves or piston port in the 90s. The RAVE is exhaust. Rotax Assinine Variable Exhaust or something like that.
Momoney will know if he sees this.

RAVE is the exhaust valves Rotax Automatic Variable Exhaust. They are really only needed for performance reasons. Wouldnt really ever effect longevity. They close the exhaust ports at low rpms via a guillotine, and opens up at high rpms. Essentially its like having different port jobs that utilize the correct port window at the correct rpms. They have come along way over the years and any modern high performance 2 stroke uses these.
Lol....The 3 step ex valves on the Poo 800 HO work great....open up at 6200 and 7500 rpm. Zoom Zoom.
800 mxz is a great sled to ride while its running but history says its not if its going to break its when, fact just go to craigs list and read about the 800 for sale, Then check out adds for Yamaha Apex theirs a clear winner here in miles ridden and lack of rebuilds or
engine work[/QUOTE
14,368 miles on my Apex 136 and PLENTY more miles to go. Pretty much why I own one. Very good power and turn key reliability, that's all I want. It might not suit everyone but it sure suits me, but that's why we have choices.
There are only 4 brands left and they all have their positives and negatives.
almost feel sorry for high mileage Apex owners hard to convince uneducated public that 10.000 plus miles is nothing on a Apex but it does kill resale value and thats a shame

Yeah, I've never had a stuck valve either. And I even use cheap crap oil that nobody likes.I can honestly say we have 2 Ski Doo 600 SDI sleds that have had only Amsoil Intercepter oil in them since new. Never stuck a valve. Very easy to clean, just wipe off with brake clean. Both sleds 11,000 plus miles, and cleaned once each. Not bragging Amoil, but it works for me. 7 Ski Doo's with RAVE valves, and never a problem for us.
