Here's what the Wisconsin Trail Pass looks like

Antique sleds, that are 35 years old or older, can be registered as an Antique for $20 with a $5 renewal. These sleds will receive a unique registration decal to keep them separate from the other sleds. Antique sleds will be exempt from a trail pass.

I need to update a little of this info. As of now Antique sleds will be provided a free trail pass. I know there is work being done to make it so Antique sleds would be exempt from needing a trail pass.

Ordered WI trail permit from AWSC website. Online process not great but not bad either...a little slow. Now I wait for AWSC to forward to DNR then WI permit is mailed to me. Ok for me to wait for mail person & living in Phelps always enough snow to ride & cross border to UPMI & enjoy a long riding season. I'm just not sure how this process will work for last minute snow chasers maybe another way in season for AWSC members to purchase for $10 with rapid response? Time will tell.

I heard over the weekend at our AWSC Directors meeting that people that ordered their Trail Passes right away, after July 1, received them in a week or less. And that was with a holiday.

Will see how long it takes but current system not going to work for snow chasing buds for 1st trip. They have enough to do to get time off, packed up & on the road now need to apply for trail pass at least a week before departure...lol. Going to be some long faces on arrival when reality bites...probably bunch of peeps don't even know they need WI trail permit this year. Going to be a fat year for DNR sticker drag nets in Vilas. lol

Took about a week for mine to arrive. Had no problems with online purchase at AWSC website. If you are serious about this hobby you are paying attention to what you need to be able to participate in it. To me no different than vehicle registration or emission testing. Get what you need to be able to drive. I do not really understand what the problem is. Like anything else, you snooze you lose.

I just ordered 3 passes in the time between these posts. Piece of cake and happy to do it, they just need a smaller sticker!

Yep, that's my group and me. We pick our trip dates early but then pick the destination at the last minute, looking at where the snow is.

I agree with Hoosier & Whitedust. We do the same thing. You can never count on good snow. We don't buy our permits until we arrive at our destination. This is a big mistake by Wisconsin if you ask me. A lot of people are just going to drive the extra hour further north now

I think a few of you are misinterpreting how this works. For the out of state guys and those who don't belong to clubs, then you buy your trail pass through the DNR or one of its agents/service centers, just as it has been. The club members get a discount and purchase it through the AWSC.

If registered in WI & Club member with multiple sleds only $10 per permit per sled vs $30 or $50 per sled over the counter. That is a HUGE difference but hey not my lean green for over the counter convenience.lol

I live in illinois, my sled is registered in illinois & i do not belong to a club. I can still go to the Holiday gas station and get a trail permit and slap it on my sled within minutes?

If you are a Club member now your membership should be valid, check your Card. Send for it asap and then you do not have to worry about renewing this fall. Otherwise pay the $30 and get it at Walmart or Fleet Farm.

It also says on the Sticker " NOT VALID UNLESS ATTACHED TO THE WINDSHIELD" So it will be a hassle if its in your Bag. The DNR likes that when you display Stickers in the wrong place. It gives them a reason to smell your breath.

I think you misinterpreted what we're trying to say by "keeping it in the bag". If I decide to ride my sled in WI I will no doubt throw them on and buy a pass, but the chances of me riding in WI are pretty slim. When riding in MI, if you have an out of state trail pass, you're sled is still by law supposed to have current registration from any state. Don't think they'll care that the WI tags aren't on but will be nice to prove sled is registered somewhere.
