I don't know about MI, but you know darn well they would care in WI.
Yeppers going to be DNR a plenty looking for WI registration & trail passes since some will be clueless regarding the new requirement that all riders must display a WI trail pass.

Somebody please catch me up on all this. I ride Wisconsin 1 weekend a year, 4 days total. I know you can join a club or pay more and not join a club. My questions are:
If I join a club what is the benifit: My dollars stay in that club area vs spread over the whole state?
What does the club fee cost?
What is the cost of just the trail pass? With and with out a club?
Can you still buy at a gas station etc or does everything have to be ordered now?

Thanks,

Once again I don't think my entire post was read start to finish....

I read it. If you are saying, there is a registration sticker you WILL have on, and there is a WI trail pass you WON'T have on in MI, you'll be fine I'm sure. But if you run without the registration sticker in MI, and they don't care, then have at it. I have no idea what MI wants for that. I was just saying, WI would care, and as pointed out, this is going to give the WI DNR a boat load of fun this first year pulling riders over to check.

Join a club & money stays there for trail grooming otherwise goes to DNR & maybe the entire state hard to forecast exact cash flow of each dollar thru DNR.
Club membership fees all vary but probably average $20.
10$ per sled if you join a club available by mail took me 3 days ordered online & in my hands thru AWSC then they forward to DNR.
No AWSC membership then $50 non resident per sled...$30 per resident sled.
$30 resident & $50 non resident per sled available over the counter.

My best shot at your questions.

1st Question: There are two benefits to you joining a club. You will get the reduced trail pass. You will also receive the Wisconsin Snowmobile News and a club newsletter. The WSN magazine will give you up to date info on snowmobile news in Wisconsin. Educating people on the anything going on in the state snowmobile related is very important. If club dues are $20, only $10 stays with the club. $10 goes to the AWSC. That money to the AWSC gets you the WSN magazine anf the reduced trail pass.

2nd Question: Club dues vary all over. My club is $20 for a family membership. A club near by me is $35.

3rd Question: The trail pass is $10 if you belong to a WI club and the AWSC. It's $30 if you don't belong to a club. It's $50 for

an out of state trail pass.

4th Question: Out of state trail passes can still purchased like before. All other trail passes need to be ordered and they will be mailed to you. If you are a club member, they can be ordered through the AWSC office or website. If you don't belong to a club you can order them through the DNR. The clubs will not order trail passes for you. It is your responsibility. This is still a work in progress and by the 2016-2017 season this process should be made simpler.

So being and Indiana resident with my sled only registered in Indiana:

If I just come up and buy a trail pass its $50 OTC.

If I joined a club, pay yearly dues (lets say about $20 to $30), then I can buy a trail passes (One for each of my own sleds) for $10 plus get all the AWSC news and know some of the money is going to the club I join. It then ends up only costing me about $30 to $40 for the first sled, and $10 more each additional sled?

Thanks,

My understanding is, To get the club pricing on trail passes, you would have to have the sleds registered in Wi. $35 for 3 years, for me it works out to join a club because my sleds already carry Wi. registration good for 2 more seasons.

Being a non-resident of WI, your sleds would need to be registered in WI to get the reduced trail pass by being a club member. Being from Indiana and having your sleds registered there, you would need to buy the $50 trail pass.

Our new registration is $30 for 3 years. I don't know how many sleds you have, so you would need to figure out at what point it makes sense to register your sleds in WI or at home.

Leave it to the government to make a simple process way more complicated than it needs to be!

It probably could be easier, but this the way it is. And, it's really not that hard to take care of. It can all be done on the computer or phone. You probably put more effort into getting dressed for a ride than it will take to register your sled and purchase a trail pass.

IMO It doesn't seem that complicated, and the difference in cost between each of the trail pass options, is really negligible. After people get over "the change" it will not be a big deal at all. Anytime there is a change in license costs, or procedures, it always raises some feathers. Next year or so, the same people who join clubs now will still be members, and those who normally don't probably still won't join.
I do like how the government wrote into the change that if it gets to be too much hassle, it will be dropped. Way to go AWSC!

Its a very simple process. Buy a Trail Pass from Walmart or Fleet Farm.

Out of State Machines $50

Wisconsin registered Machines $30.

Don't worry about the Club thing, just pay the Price and stick it on the Windshield or stay off the Trails.

In state sleds can only get the trail pass through the AWSC or the DNR. Not Walmart or Fleet Farm.
