No snow for Grub or myself. The storm moved about 100 miles to the south and east from the forecast a few days ago

We have only had a handfull of freezing temps. Ground not even close to frozen yet. Just started my outdoor boiler on Wed which is a solid month later than usual. Going to be awhile before LOW even thinks about freezing up unless things change in a hurry and next week's highs are all above freezing.

Yeah same here been very warm Oct and Nov but I'm seeing mid 30s for highs here all next week and chance of clipper snows after LES this weekend. I saw lots of blue on radar last night in your neighborhood but many times in Phelps we see radar snow but nothing falling. Looking more faverable now for cold & snow but still warm for this late in Nov. No ice fishing here for TG.

Lighting, thunder and pouring rain now in Rice Lake, WI. As Grub said, the ground isn't anywhere close to freezing and neither are the lakes. Getting any amount of snow on top of a warm, already saturated surface is not what we need at all.

I added cams from Ely MN yesterday. They seem to be getting hit the hardest so far. Gull Lake also has several inches on the ground so far.

I see The Weather Channel just changed their 3 month forecast to warmer and wetter for basically all of us on this site. Of course I will consider that update but still trust in John above all others. He called this present storm before anyone else. Elf should be able to ride tommorrow.

None of this snow will stay anyway, but could make for some early season testing grounds for those of us who went through everything in the off season. I'm just hoping for enough to rip up the yard a little. Temps have gone from 50 to 39 in the last 2 hours.

First coating in the twin cites? Hoping it signals a change of seasons 1479503786906797071029.jpg

Here's the thing though... I know a ton of snow is not a good thing, but an inch or two will help to make night time temps much colder than if it were bare ground. Watch what happens in areas that have snowcover after this system passes vs places at roughly the same latitude that do not. It could be as much as a 10-20 degree difference in early morning lows.

So I guess my point is, as long as it is not a ton of snow, or it melts upon contact with any standing water, then snow can actually help freeze things up.

The Grand Forks NWS is showing around a foot of snow in the Park Rapids and Itasca state park areas about 2 hours away from me near our lake cabin.

Note; compare the snowpack in Northern Canada now versus warm winters in the Lower 48, no comparison, the snowpack is growing and much deeper than that of traditional warm winters. Winter is on it's way!

Local weathermen falling into line with John's forecast for early next week. Looks like the end of above freezing temps for us on Monday. Bring it on.
