Picked up Droid two weeks ago, love it! I'am at work now :)
Worst part, having a phone actually worth $$ and having to keep it safe.

EVo is not available from AT&T. They sell the I-phone, Sprint sells EVO, Verizon sells Moto Droid

ATT has several droids, the Backflip is the one I use. If you are within driving distance of Ontonagon....we would love to help you out. As of Sept 1, authorized retailers (like me) will be able to choose to sell the Iphone, something that only corporate stores can do for now. Due to our very small and struggling market, we have decided to not offer the Iphone at our store, but will change if things change in the future.

The Droid 2 is like $800 retail. I am getting it for $300 with rebate of $100 since I am up for a new phone and have to go into new contract. Insurance on it for All perils is $100 for 20 months. Being around a lot of water at work and play I got that to. Then the $25 activation fee, etc etc. After the smoke clears I am out of pocket $325 for it. My lap top is antique and is on it's last leg. This new phone has apps. to let me pull up Quick books Pro from the office and banking, John Dee, etc.,etc. And the stuff I need to run the Business from the road or sea. My plan is to never have to go home or the office again! except for clean clothes. lol. The new phone even works with my new wireless office 4in1 printer.

my ATT Motorola Backflip Droid has almost completely replaced my laptop. We no longer have a land lines, even in Mass City I have an ATT Microcell that allows my phone 3G and phone service.

My laptop is begining to look like an 8 track tape

thats 2 bad you think that way....see'in as how a laptop has a built in DVR and can burn record TV SHOWS and MOVIES for free....and SONGS....and RADIO.....i'd say its more like a DUAL CASSETTE/VCR/DVD/CD RECORDER with a screen you can actually see....a DROID is a glorified AIR CARD thats all....but an IPHONE is 2 steps down from that even so i guess u otay then

Okay got the Droid 2 today. And I thought this would make my life much easier. For this old dog, it has a learning curve with new tricks, that my kid is setting up for me.

Prof-pc....don't feel bad for me. I still use all the things and they are good...but the laptop no longer goes every place with me. There is really nothing that I cannot do on my backflip...and it is much smaller and easier to carry.

Polarisrider1-

Not sure your area (coverage) but I am pretty sure AT&T can get you in a driod for much less. I am an authorized dealer...so check for yourself. We frequently compare our products-prices to Verizon, wallyworld, and even the ATT corporate store to see what we need to do to be competitive. I have been shocked at the Verizon driod prices

New info and the kid is going nuts since I have the feature of using my Droid 2 to run 4-5 wireless devices (lap tops, printers, desk top) as a wireless hot spot. this means "No Tethering. it is completely wireless. So this desk top is running full speed ahead after switching to it from the house hold ATT high speed and router a couple rooms over. Going to try to run Netflix thru it next to the TV. If that works than the home phone is history. Please note: I have a Kettering engineer and a computer science geek showing me this stuff (my kids). I will retain less than 10%. They said don't worry Dad this thing is way cool!

Bank of America will start testing a system next month that would allow people to pay New York-area merchants through their mobile phones instead of swiping plastic credit or debit cards.

New York City taxis, Walgreen drugstores, Home Depot and McDonald's in the region will be able to accept the mobile payments. The service may be expanded if the test goes well.

Wireless carriers are looking to enter the U.S. payments market dominated by Visa and MasterCard, the world's biggest card networks. AT&T and Verizon Wireless, the two largest U.S. mobile carriers, may begin testing phone payments at stores in four cities by the middle of next year, according to Bloomberg.

Visa, MasterCard and American Express are also developing their own technology that would work with mobile phones. Such a system is already in use in the U.K., Japan, Turkey and South Korea.

Fo all those with smart phones:

You have an option on this as someone mentioned before, it can be tethered or bluetooth and will cost you $30.00 for the licensing....I think this is a lifetime license and not yearly. With the right App you unlock your phone to become the wireless hotspot, paying Verizon or AT&T 20-30.00 a month extra so you can run wifi is a waste if you have PDAnet. I know with Verizon you already pay 25.00 for unlimited web and email, and that is all you need to work with PDAnet. Verizon has another 25.00 option on top of that to let you run up to 5 devices using your phone as the "Hot Spot" but you are limited to like 2 GB.

Definitly check out PDanet, there is a free trial, so if you dont like it just stick with paying for what you have.

I can make my jailbroken iPhone4 (as i have with my 3G & 3GS in the past) a wi-fi hotspot for multiple devices. Works great. My kids especially love to be able to log in their iPod Touch to my phone when we're on the road. No reason I should pay twice for "unlimited" data. I've had all three kids logged on and myself on the internet with reliable performance.

I added it. Day 2, starting to figure this thing out. I am breaking free from the cell phone only mind set. I even set up the aquarium moving wall paper app. "Bubble" app. will come in handy also. I set up weather for home, boat, cabin and Togwotee with the "weather channel" app. and then I have "map it" within that. It gives me my GPS location on a detailed map with the weather overlay. (learning quick). Wife is upset that I have a new toy. Ebay, Netflix, paypal, weather, etc. setting it up so I can work and have fun on the run.
