Back on topic: The BRP/Ski-doo E-TECH SHOT

The BRP/Ski-doo E-TECH SHOT:

I guess capacitors — even "ultracapacitors" — still lose their charge over time, as they always have. (There's an opportunity for a "giant leap for 'lectrical injuneering", eh?)

I guess you might call it the Ski-doo E-TECH "One SHOT wonder", as you get just one shot per charge, giving you "… one rotation of the crankshaft", relying on the E-Tec engine to "start on a short degree of rotation".

The "SHOT" won't crank for an extended period as an automotive starter would, and also:
"BRP testing demonstrates a SHOT starting success rate of over 95% up to 30 minutes after engine shutdown, assuming a prior minimum charging time of 2 minutes idling on a cold engine, or 20 seconds on a warm engine."
Forecasting next year's quantum leap in technology from BRP:

An external "wall-wart" charger to use in pre-charging the "SHOT" box, as you would use with your cell phone.

Do ya 'spose a full pre-charge would supply enough "voltrons" to kick that E-TECH engine to life on an initial cold start?

[SUP]1[/SUP] Caveat: I am a "mathemagician" and once-upon a time 'lectrical injuneer wannabe who on the way to a BSEE degree found a career "bending" software into submission instead of battling hardware!

you got 5 guys that jumped ship and are strictly lake racers,,,

you want a cookie?

I ride where the snow is abundant in the UP. Ask Kip how many SW's he has sold, lots of them. Doo riders jumping ship to buy SW's.....yes they were 1200 Doo riders. Some with literally bucket loads of money into theirs to run with the stock Yamaha's. Apparently you haven't been on DooTalk. There actually is a section for the 4s riders over there.

The UP is a melting pot for all sorts of snowmobilers from the upper midwest. To say all you see is one brand or style of machine up there......BS.....this was my 16th season in a row riding up there and one of the busiest.

Probably not - he'll take it personally.
But there are quite a few in this thread that need to take a full semester course on "anecdotal evidence". (sarcasm - obviously this would have been one chapter, in some text book, of some class they missed or slept through)

Really, like their lightweight bulkheads that rip apart when you hit something that doesn't phase other sleds? Come on, your yellow goggles are getting rather blinding. How about their rattling clutches,their expensive belts known to grenade and expensive 2 stroke oil??......How about an 800 engine that has trouble making 5000 miles? We can all find pluses and minuses to every brand.

Other manufactures have had their day in the sun too. What the common thread usually is when a certain mfg. is leading in sales is they offer the most different options on several machines. If you look at their product line they usually have oodles of choices on just few motor platforms, track lengths,track lug hts., 2 up seats, ES and Rev, saddle bags, different shock packages, different windshields, the list goes on. But all in all they have the MOST models. Polaris was that way in the 1990's.

Hello Journeyman,
I certainly believe you speak the truth many times but I have a funny story for you;
On two mornings this season I had my 850 started up and a gent with a 17 800 AXYS started his up too;
He said "is that a 4 stroke"? I said no a two stroke 850.
The Polaris had a rattling clutch while running and sounded like a tin can while turning over;
So I might say this is not so true on these larger bore sleds.

Half hour seems like awhile, but yea I get your point..i guess if you sit around for longer than that and the shot doesn't work, welp you will have to use a pull chord.

Like electric cars and all technology it will be a longer amount of time stored each model year.

Bucket loads of money to run with yamaha's. common bro. a good running stage 1 1200 turbo puts any Yamaha to shame.

The quickest sled of 2017 is the 850, the winders are radar runners, not drag racers.

I am with you Money but...Polaris has the trademarked tagline of "sharpest handling. Quickest acceleration".
What do you think?

According to what?

Have you actually ran an 850 against a Winder?

Every person I know with a SW that rides with the new Doo 850's have stated it's no contest. One fella owns both, stills says the SW is hands down faster and quicker. Even if the 850 gets the jump it's over in a few hundred feet. Sorry but a turbo is a whole different world. Completely different powerband.

I ran a couple 850's last week on my Attak, I stayed ahead well past the century mark, never caught me. Just clutched and a better track and 15,000 miles on the ticker. As said, they are about the same as the 800 E-Tec's for performance. If you want to state the AM Snow shootout they were behind the Poo 800. That was just one place, one day, one condition.

You didn't get my point. They don't make a factory 1200 turbo. I don't care what stage it is, it cost more to build a 1200 Doo turbo than it does to buy a new SW or TCat with a factory turbo with 10 times the engineering. Also if you go bonkers on boost the 1200 isn't built with the internals to hold together. You have to go into the internals. I know some guys that made the mistake of over boosting a 1200 on a stock engine....scattered.

As for full blown turbos on the 4s's, again Yamaha wins. Why does OSP dominate in the outlaw classes with turbo Apex motors? OSP's full blown turbo drag race Apex motors are turning over 700 HP on the dyno and they have bucket loads of trophies and records to prove it.

EH BUSCEMI, IS IT A 850 OR 800 YOU SPEAK OF, YOU DISCUSS BOTH.

I'd be glad to run you anytime and I don't have a SW and nothing to lose with my old machine. I know the other two fellas weren't smug anymore. :cool2:

I am sure your new technology machine rides and handles better, it should but mine pulls like a freight train in a drag race. I used to wrench for a Pro drag racer. But to be honest I can ride with the best in the trails too. No one seems to pass me. Can't imagine how I'd be on a SW........:)

May I suggest a timed course like the Freda loop and see what's up?

I absolutely respect brand loyalty and opinions of others. I have no beef with mo or XXX007, I have respect for both and their opinions. Just can't see eye to eye all the time. Hey man, Yamaha's are heavy:)

Some people need to realize that messing with a doo lover is kind of like messing with someone in Scientology. There's just no way to win an argument with them or even have them concede a point.

I'm guessing it's just as hard to get out of either cult.

Because their frames rust away and they had a ton of recalls???
I studied econ before too. Actually price is a very key factor in determining quantity demand on your supply & demand curves...

So for your example - why is the Tundra so far behind in sales to GM & Ford trucks?

Pretty sure that the biggest take away from this Doo revelation is that they were bright enough to realize they effed up when they eliminated the pull start all together.

who can't restart a sled within a 1/2 hour of being run?....starting it up the first time is the biggest PITA....so what's the big news again?....MOMO had another Doogasm?
