Sending hops to 5 breweries so far. New sled is in sight.

so what sort of critters go after the hops? and what is in your hands? is that how they come out or I assume u proses them in to pellet forum for compact shipping?

We had nearly everything pelletized this year. It's what brewers want, its a space saver in the brewing kettle. (One pound of dried hops is about the size of a large beach ball, one pound of pellets is about the size of a softball.) All that means is they get more beer in each batch, and its easier for them to store their hops in a smaller cooler.

Critters? none really. Some places are experimenting with sheep to eat the weeds. Supposedly they dont eat the hop bines because of the prickly stems.

Thanks for the update on the hops.

It must be an amazingly strong smell when standing amongst them.

We have neighbors that must be trying to grow hops. They put up poles and lines, but the plants are small and slow growing.

Congratulations on your venture! I looked into hops a few years ago on my hobby farm, but the start up costs were much more then what I wanted to put in. Just curious, what is the ph of your soil?

Since, last year I started a microbrewery, called "Berlin Brewery" . I also own "Flat River Brewing ". Anyways I have an 80 year old Skandianvian lady growing Cascade hops for us in Coopersville, Mi.. They make me itch like
crazy..

Note: after 3 explosions attempting to duplicate Founders "Backwoods Bastard" my wife moved production to a new building (1200 sq.ft.) built 150' from the main brew house. That's what happens when the office girl gets to much power.
