.What I get sick of is where was you on such and such date,,you said you wanted to be active.Hard to be active when you are not notified of when things are happening.

No excuse for this anymore. There just are to many ways for info to travel. We use text, email, and facebook. Info gets out well. They need to change something.

I guess I would suggest going to a meeting or 2 of the various clubs and feel it out. I don't think you have to join a club to go to a meeting. Tell them you are interested in joining a club in the area and are trying to see which feels the best for you. I also don't think you need to belong to more than one club. Find one that you like and put your efforts into that one. Do you have friends in the area that may suggest a club?

I was born into my club. My Dad is a still active founding member. So, I have been in my club my entire life. 44 years and counting.

I am glad to hear you are looking to join a club. I only hope more people here follow your lead.

Hey jr, what club are you with? the wife and I after many years, were talking about possibly joining a local club, even though we ride primarily north in Tomahawk and the UP..... I see you are from Marathon.

I live between Mosinee and Marathon. But, I have been a member of the Poniatowski Dare Devils my entire life. We cover areas north of Edgar to Hwy A, and between Hwy 107 and CTH M. Our meetings are the 2nd Tues. of the month at our club shed. If you are interested, you could come to my place and ride along. PM me if interested. Otherwise there are good clubs closer to you.

As you know I released a bit of a profile for me & my bud as looking for a Club with like minded riders & offering our help with trail maintenance up front to let them know we're passionate about snowmobiling. I was told by club officer "look else where this Club not for you no one here interested in hard riding & no one at your level of ability". I was like "No One"? ...no one even wants to raise their game? I sensed protectionism in the tone & we don't need 2 riders like you with this club. I would have thought the Club would have said "we welcome riders of all abilities welcome aboard & thanks for giving us a try". I give the Club an A+ for honesty but really is this the way it is with most Clubs across the board?? I also think Cap/Step is going to shake things up clubwise going to be 10s of 1000s of whitedusts knocking on your club door & what are you going to do then? All I can say is we are looking at other clubs & hope it goes better elsewhere but really wondering if joining a club is right for us just continue to stuff trail donation jars & wait for Cap/Step to shake up the old Club guard?

I can't believe a club would turn away new members that want to help, CRAZY. We would gladly take you here, but we are 2 hours away from you. I don't see you going that far from home.

That is odd. Tough finding the right fit I guess. Just out of curiosity why do you think the current cap / step proposal will "shake things up clubwise going to be 10s of 1000s of whitedusts knocking on your club door."

Why do you think more people will be joining clubs because of the current cap / step proprosal?

Believe it or not, there are some out here that have commented that club memberships might actually go down with Cap/Step because some snowmobilers might take a mind set that they no longer have to join a club and all the headaches that go with it if they can avoid this by simply paying the $20 extra fee, which would go 100% into the snowmobile program for return to the clubs via project approvals, new mileage, and/or supplemental grooming. Just saying. Personally I don't consider even for a minute that it is a "headache" when you join a club because I enjoy it and besides, I like having trails to ride on, but this is something to think about.

Most clubs need help both money & feet on the ground Cap/Step is supposed to satisfy both needs or why even offer a dscount to join a club? Logic to me, not everyone,....I understand that, but to me my preference is to join a club that way your dues goes right to club of choice. Not sure how I feel about it now after current reception or lack of reception maybe just better to pay the state & go on my merry way.....the easy way out for sure.

Yep,,and it left a very bad taste in my mouth so to speak,,after several times of it and making shure they had my cell and home phone #s and email correct I decided that was not the club for me.

Pete, I have just finished reading your post. We are in 2 great clubs Sno Valley Riders Bruce Crossing/Sidnaw and U.P. Thunder Riders Watersmeet and used to be in the Frosty Club in Land O Lakes. Frosty Club is a great club they meet once a month, go out for dinner after the meeting and usually meet on Wednesdays in town to ride for the day. Go to a meeting 1st wednesday of the month 6pm at the town hall in land o lakes.

Are you set on joining in WI only? We'd love to have you guys in one of the U.P. clubs we're in

Thanks Linda we were very much thinking Frosty Club was a better match in WI also U.P. Thunder Riders & thinking maybe Iron River might need some help too. I can't count out Three Lakes Brule system as possible maybe too. We match up better with UP clubs but if CapStep passes in WI more sense to join WI Club.

Released this as our profile to a club today. What do you think? How would this be viewed? We need to hear from all you then we tell you what we were told in a nice way of course.:)

Does this sound like the right fit for your snowmobile club?

If you ever move south I know one club that would take you!

I joined the Kellner Knights 5+ years ago when I moved to Wisconsin Rapids. Never a club member before but since I could now park the sled next to the garage and ride whenever I wanted it was clear I needed to help out the local club (Kellner Knights). I started helping a friend pound signs, which made me a better rider for knowing why signs are placed how they are. Then I started with meetings. My first meeting was basically like renegade described. Sometimes the old guard needs to step aside and let some new faces see if they can "walk the walk" sorta speak. Now I'm the Vice President and membership chair. The new guys ramped up the grooming schedule, which got more people noticing the trails. I got a website, facebook, twitter, email, text messaging, you name it up and running to communicate with everybody that would listen. When I started we were around 70 memberships now we are getting closer to 100. Sure it's a lot of work but what worthwhile isnt work? This year I had 2 brand new members brushing and signing. It was great and I hope it snowballs from here.

I know that you love the sport and club representatives should see that when you talk to them.

If anyone in the Wisconsin Rapids/Plover area is looking for a club look no further! http://www.kellnerknights.org/

How much money are we really talking about? How much is Cap Step going to increase reg costs, and what are the average dues to join a club. For all the fun we have on the trails. $35, $50 $100 is a drop in the bucket.. If you can afford a 10k plus sled or not.. just gas for this sport.. I would think the dues to Join a club whether you are an "active" member or not is just logical. They groom the trails, keep land owners happy and help bring people to our area to spend money. Seems like a no brainer? Just pick one and go riding.

it is hard some times.
I was in one around my house for yrs and was not happy about a lot going on or I should say lack of things going on.
a new club was started in a neighboring town went to check it out and joined that day. best decision I could have made was to dump the old club and move to one more in line with what I wanted out of a club mainly snowmobiling as the #1 priority..well that and I walked out of the last club mid meeting with a are u FING kidding me when they actually had a vote to $$ fund the cross country ski team.
on a side note this new club is getting trails back open getting new trails open getting events going coinciding with city events like snowmobile softball games. I will do local riding with guys But I have never and prob never will go on a club trip.If I travel it is not to get stuck on a trail in a cloud of snow dust all weekend.
if no clubs fit your Idea of what a club should be start a new one.
if it is good people will come

For a dude that claims he dumps a 10 spot everytime he buys a map and puts money in trail grooming jars while on trips, seems odd that he doesn't just be a member of more than one club, but maybe it was because he was called out for being a deuche for doing a half assed job marking his section of trails and for not getting trail signs out of farmers fields on time and for being mr negative about everything and everyone. I mean go back and re-read all the posts you write dude, and try to be positive for a change and not just rip everyone that rides a trail sled or doesn't do things your way. BTW, The funding for the Cross Country thing was laughed out of that meeting and was never brought up again.

We have been members of snowmobile clubs in the past & didn't find the experience very satisfying as far as finding hard-core like minded riding buds & club events were not much interest either. They had their trail boss & helpers so just became a member that writes a check really all they wanted from me at the time. So when we moved north I decided to stuff donation jars at bar/grills where ever we were riding & spent far more than WI club membership dues. We also ride UPMI a lot so wanted to stuff their donation jars too. With WI CapStep coming we feel the need to get out in front of the mandate/or option to join a WI club & do it on our own. We won't stuff WI donation jars anymore just pay dues, we will stuff MI donation jars & found some WI clubs discount membership dues if you join more than 1 club. So all this brings us back to the to the original question which Club to join & how do you decide? Keep in mind we around completely surrounded by many snowmobile Clubs so our quest to find the best fit before we commit. I hope this question does not offend any club members sure not meant to upset anyone but "Club fit" is important to us.:)
