My son inlaw had 97 MXZx 440 & 99 MXZx 440 race sleds & although good twisty trail sleds for their time they are a sack of bricks to any rider forward sled. 440s are great engines but not for grades... woods only & can't keep up on grades. Mixing oil & gas another PIA & I had to carry oil for both of us. If you like them fine but a lot better handling & riding sleds out there. 440s struggle to keep up with 600s & 800s & why racers are 600s these days no future for outdated 440s.

I no longer have the 97 and my son still rides the 99. I have a Rev now. As for the oil, I carry an extra quart in a powermadd caddy attached to the chaincase on my Rev. On his 99, he has a caddy attached to the left side of the pan. Really the only extra thing we carry is a ratio rite bottle and that is in his rear storage compartment. Mixing oil is simple at the pumps, heck I've seen people take longer getting there gear on after filling up than mixing the oil.

LOL....... been there a few times myself. I do know one thing after the crappy winter we had last year along with zero miles on the sleds. **** didn't even buy trail permits (3 sleds) because of it. I've been looking for a fan cooled, bogie wheel vintage sleds. Just haven't found the right one and definitely don't want a fixer upper (been there, done that). I really interested in a Chaparral. At least this way, I can ride a sled sometime during the winter when we get our blizzards of a 1/2".

I was wanting to do the same thing last season buy something vintage for local trail use just to ride in scabby conditions. But like you I did not want to spend all my time wrenching so fought off the impulse. I still put on 2000 miles in best of best conditions but I had to ride in or right after snowfall or trails were trashed from all the traffic. This season has to be better!:)

I have 7 XP 800 Ski-Doos. Told the wife I need one for each day of the week. She wasn't impressed with my justification....

WHY???????????? All the same sled..... need spare parts for swap to keep 7 XP 800 Ski-Doos running? If I had 7 sleds they would all be different for sure!

Sleddinfool, you are a credit to your member name. You have some really cool sleds in your inventory. Having owned a 72 SSII and a couple of 74’s I have a soft spot for the Chaps. They had some of the best and the worst ideas in the history of sledding. They used rock solid Fuji motors in a lot of their sleds and their poly pan and aluminum sub-frame was years ahead of even the major manufacturers. But then there was the matter of the stamped steel slide rails (with no hyfax). They not only bent on the first hard mogul hit but also tended to wear through the steel wear pads. Rumor has it that the retrofit for the bending issue basically put them out of the sledding business. Still; I loved em’ and to this day I have a Chaparral key ring from one of the sleds. BTW, Chaparral was the featured sled at Waconia last year and they had a great display of classic Chaps

Some are Renegades, some are Adrenalines. Some are studded, some are not. Some are set up with different accessories, some are not. So you see they are different.
