they dont count if they are vintage that falls under the colectable catagory totaly diff thing it is like a investment lol

I agree with this. Vintage is a different bird ....I thought we were talking sleds you ride on a semi regular bases. Vintage are light duty sleds fun but no long distance trail crusiers in the bunch. I can see the vaule of having a trail sled & mountain sled or a trail cruiser & a ditch banger or a back up family 2up. But accumulating mid 90s to 2002ish sleds are mostly heavy outdated mules maybe find a nice straight line triple triple in the mix but the most part a sack of bricks.LOL:)

Well you thought wrong. reread post 1. nothing says vintage does not count. That's like saying you live in an old house and we are talking new house. it was never stated.

Not all vintage sleds are an investment or collectable

Got to disagree with you there, until 2000 vintage sleds is all I rode. My kids and I would ride the trails in the north half of MI and UP just like anyone with newer sleds. We carried a ratio rite container to mix our oil and went from town to town. My newer sleds that I got were a 97 MXZx 440 racer and 99 MXZx 440 racer. Two reasons I got these were that I wanted a newer sled to ride and also I wanted to hopefully get a leg up on possibly the next sought after sleds. Everyone is different in regards to how they ride and where, the same as life in general.

If you have ....two ....sleds and you move them ....to....the shed, does that mean that you have ....too....many sleds?

OK, so you have one sled and one butt to put in that sled....but what happens if that sled gets busted....and the man at the dealership says, "...ah dem parts are at least a month on back order...."

A normally well adjusted individual would not panic...he would simply suggest to his wife that it is time to trade that "hunk of junk in anyway...."

However, for all those maladjusted individuals that frequent this site....and you know who you are, don't you??? Then you can't sleep, eat, work...or even walk the dog until that sled is fixed again....

And that my friend is why you have two socket wrenches....just encase one breaks down, and a late model trailer to haul the sled(s) in, and why you can't have too many sleds in the garage.

Too many sleds??? Not hardly Pilgrim!

Ever see a draftsman with only one pencil??

Some folks buy CD's...some buy gold...others buy stock in Exxon mobil.....but any man who would knowingly let himself get down to one sled, and no back ups to the backups...well, can we really get serious here and just say.....suddo sledder?

I mean, let's get real here!

That'd why I have a Platinum card in the waiting for just such catastrophies. Yes one sled gives me that naked in public feeling.

When your first post mentioned investment, I thought "yes sir, an investment in money, time, blood (usually), and elbow grease" but this statement pretty much nails it. Do I think about other troubling issues when I'm in the shed messing with sleds (vintage or otherwise)? Nope - I might think about why I have a left-over washer but not, as you say, the BS of life.

I may actually go down to one late-model rider next winter but the vintage addiction has taken full-hold and I don't think intervention will help at this point.

I joked with my wife one day last winter when I came in from the pole building after wrenching on something. I told her it seemed like I was always working on something in the shed and then I sort of looked around the shed and saw 5 sleds, 2 ATV's, the 1952 Ford 8N, and I realized why it seemed like I was always working on something. Because I was!

My wife says I have to many. It's not like there junk and don't run anyone of them I'd take on a week end trip.Anybody else have this problem?

I take it your wife isn't a snowmobiler reiley? Mine is and has her own Z1. I came across a completely trick out (HP) new sled by accident on Ebay one evening. I mentioned to her that I would love having that. I already had 3 of my own. She told me if I wanted it , get it. Few days later I was on a 600 + mile trip to pick it up.

My son inlaw had 97 MXZx 440 & 99 MXZx 440 race sleds & although good twisty trail sleds for their time they are a sack of bricks to any rider forward sled. 440s are great engines but not for grades... woods only & can't keep up on grades. Mixing oil & gas another PIA & I had to carry oil for both of us. If you like them fine but a lot better handling & riding sleds out there. 440s struggle to keep up with 600s & 800s & why racers are 600s these days no future for outdated 440s.

Yeah, your right, everyone wants to race down a rail grade at 100+ these days. Sheesh.
