I have a slight problem with this

Including children in what "some" still consider offensive language is a simple indication of the decline of morality in this country. I believe morality is valuable and things like this contribute to our decline as a solid and sound nation. Our level or respect and decency is slipping!

WARNING! WARNING WARNING! What some of us still consider as vulgarity

I really find this disturbing,,I know, I am taking this to far and need to lighten up,,right? not!!!!!!

Desperate move by a desperate company. Kmart was once king. And yes what a decline in society.

Subject: FW: I'm tired and 83 Here you go Lenny!

Still way younger but also tired of many of these things! Well said Bill Cosby!

Cosby "I'm 83 and Tired" MUST READ
WHY ITS GOOD TO BE OLD

"I'm 83 and I'm Tired"

I'm 83. Except for brief period in the 50's when I was doing my National
Service, I've worked hard since I was 17. Except for some serious
health challenges, I put in 50-hour weeks, and didn't call in sick in nearly
40 years. I made a reasonable salary, but I didn't inherit my job or my
income, and I worked to get where I am. Given the economy, it looks as
though retirement was a bad idea, and I'm tired. Very tired.

I'm tired of being told that I have to "spread the wealth" to people who
don't have my work ethic. I'm tired of being told the government will take
the money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too lazy
to earn it.

I'm tired of being told that Islam is a "Religion of Peace," when every day I
can read dozens of stories of Muslim men killing their sisters, wives and
daughters for their family "honor"; of Muslims rioting over some slight
offense; of Muslims murdering Chris tian and Jews because they aren't
"believers"; of Muslims burning schools for girls; of Muslims stoning
teenage rape victims to death for "adultery"; of Muslims mutilating the
genitals of little girls; all in the name of Allah, because the Qur'an and
Shari'a law tells them to.

I'm tired of being told that out of "tolerance for other cultures" we must let
Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries use our oil money to fund mosques
and madrassa Islamic schools to preach hate in Australia , New Zealand ,
UK, America and Canada , while no one from these countries are allowed to
fund a church, synagogue or religious school in Saudi Arabia or any other
Arab country to teach love and tolerance..

I'm tired of being told I must lower my living standard to fight global
warming, which no one is allowed to debate.

I'm tired of being told that drug addicts have a disease, and I must help
support and treat them, and pay for the damage they do. Did a giant germ
rush out of a dark alley, grab them, and stuff white powder up their noses
or stick a needle in their arm while they tried to fight it off?

I'm tired of hearing wealthy athletes, entertainers and politicians of all
parties talking about innocent mistakes, stupid mistakes or youthful
mistakes, when we all know they think their only mistake was getting
caught. I'm tired of people with a sense of entitlement, rich or poor.

I'm really tired of people who don't take responsibility for their lives and
actions. I'm tired of hearing them blame the government, or discrimination
or big-whatever for their problems.

I'm also tired and fed up with seeing young men and women in their teens and
early 20's be-deck them selves in tattoos and face studs, thereby making
themselves un-employable and claiming money from the Government.
And I'm sick and tired of seeing young kids walking down the streets
looking like idiots with their underwear showing.

Yes, I'm tired. But I'm also glad to be 83.. Because, mostly, I'm not
going to have to see the world these people are making.
I'm just sorry for my granddaughter and their children. Thank God I'm on the way out and not
on the way in.
There is no way this will be widely publicized, unless each of us
sends it on!

This is your chance to make a difference.

" I'm 83 and I'm tired. If you don't forward this you
are part of the problem".

While I like some if not all the things in that letter, it was not written by Cosby.

Check this out, http://www.snopes.com/politics/soapbox/imtired.asp and if you're not inclined to believe snopes, there are several other websites that say it was not written by him.

but to have kids pimped put to spew out language of contemporary vulgarity is outrageous. You gotta ask yourself, would you want your kid there saying what these kids are saying?

Having been a sales/marketing guy for my real career, we had a rule that was roughly lifted from the Hipocratic Corpus "Primum non nocere" : "Above all, do no harm."

What it meant was that when you are running a brand or business you never did harm to it, you were always looking to better the brand. If there was a possibilty your actions could do harm you didn't do it.

This campaign is interesting because it has drawn attention to the brand, which is suffering horribly from a lack of definition and purpose. I can see the agency ptching this now, increase awareness, viral video, social media, yada, yada, yada. But while increasing awareness, it does nothing to reposition the brand. I can ship my pants...whoo whoo. So does every other brand in the space.

And while providing this empty brand promise, it offends some people. The person who created the spot got promoted to executive creative director at DraftFCB. But it won't drive sales because nobody needs K-Mart, especially in the on-line space.

Dumb move

Personally I think it is funny. The reality is there is no swearing at all. it's just a play on words. You do realize they are say "big gas", even though you think its "Big ***". The second is saying "I just shipped my pants" and you think it's "I just sh*t my pants". Yes, a fine line, but it got peoples attention which is the whole point of marketing. Pretty clever and there is plenty worse being put on TV and the internet. JMHO

i rarely chuckle out loud at a tv ad but the I shipped my pants is funny.
I find the overwhelming amount of wiener stiffener commercials more offensive than those.

Just a minor comment...the whole point of marketing is to sell stuff. Getting people's attention is one tool to use. Getting people's attention and not selling stuff is wasted money.

the play on words is funny,,yes, I am admitting that there is humor behind it. Regardless of the play on words, it sets an idea in our head of what it sounds like and that shows the intentions of those who thought it up. To see children accepting the play on words as acceptable is what I find disturbing. This has been going on for many many years and still declining and yes there is worse. I guess we all draw a line as to what we interpret as acceptable and that is why I no longer have cable TV. We use netflix and do not miss all the crap, commercials and save a load of cash

As compared to some of the crap on TV these days, I feel Kmarts commercials are pretty harmless. To many sitcoms are so far from what I want my kids watching. And, FOX Sunday nights is one night of the week that TVs just should not be turned on.:(

You can't please all the people all the time but you can go broke trying. At a time when gas prices are spiraling - at least here in the Midwest - it is an ad that will hit home with a certain segment. Over the last decade or two there has been a numbing of the general public's sense of what is appropriate and what is not appropriate. This ad would never have flown in 1970 but it works now. This site is full of a lot of older and more conservative folks. Which is just fine as I am one of you also. But you have to remember - We are not the whole enchilada. They are trying to appeal to younger folks - black and white - who drive a lot. They did that. They actually did a pretty good job tying in some demographics. If you see this as offensive that is your right. But it is a good snapshot of where we are as a society. Is our society different than it was 30 years ago - YES. Is it better or worse or is it just different and you personally liked things better 30 years ago? Lots of people weren't around 30 years ago. And they buy gas.

Well, I will say now-a-days, ( since I'm 50 ) and an old man in the shop ( manufacturing business ) the younger kids have lost all respect foir themselves and for their elder's. I'm still fond of my memories from 30+ years ago.
Not fond of the ED commercials, and glad my kids are old enough not to ask " Dad, what is ED ? "....
Best not to let the TV raise your kids !

I should not get involved but here goes. Please dont judge me! I think the commercial is funny, it reminds me of an old movie (early 80ies) called "Johnny Dangerously" they played on words the whole movie and it was 'PG'

I personally would never "rather be on the way out in stead of in" (from the above letter) that sounds like something a dying person would say to make themselves feel better. Although i do agree with the first half of that letter. Why do we help the people who wanna kill us.

This world isnt going to **** because of them young punks with tattoos and steel. After all its nothing new to be young and rebellious. I think this world could get along if it were not for corrupt politicians and big company greed.

The commercial is funny and harmless, but it doesn't work for me, its been years since i been there. I agree with " dont let tv raise your kids".

At least we all agree that times have changed. Personally I see the "trend" as a step backwards. Is decency wrong or has the definition evolved to become more acceptable with what is happening. I don't care what we compare it to because that doesn't change a thing. Vulgar language is vulgar and children being vulgar is even worse. I do know they are saying ship pants and big gas but they understand what they are implying. Most people will say i need to lighten up about this but I still a adhere to the old "standard of truth", "right is right and wrong is wrong."

Does it make you a bad person for not having a problem with this? NO, It just means you are not concerned with the usage of vulgar language to the degree I am. Many words that were considered vulgar are no longer considered vulgar so the definition evolves with society as with many controversial topics.

I wonder where we will be in 25 years on topics of the like?

Things have changed so much in the last 25 years and the pace of change will only increase as we go on. Thankfully in 25 more years if I am not dead I will at least be deaf and blind so I won't notice as much. The only way out of the rat race that this country has become is to move out of the country to a more serene and relaxed place with less of the tax burdens that we will increasingly endure. Belize, Costa Rica or Equador. No snow there though. But their health care systems actually work without breaking the bank. That will become increasingly important with age. Perhaps an expatriot JD site could be started there so we could still get our fix.
