Its a good place to visit and has alot to offer. Built in the 60s the brick structure is still intact, but now rearranged inside and updated with todays technology.

Went to get all my Federal and MI Tax forms.

Due to Fed cuts, only 1040s available in paper form. ANYWHERE. No more instruction booklets. Nothing.
Gonna be tough for us paper people. I need a booklet to study page and back to page

Why no IRS media awareness push ? Glad I found this out now as I do taxs with paper and pencil and my dollar store glasses. . . Did you/anyone know this ?

I had heard this, but I would think with computers, paper forms will be gone before long. With that said, how many paper forms can they possibly need? No excuse for this. Many people just do them online or print the forms off irs.gov.

The IRS is spending too much money targeting certain groups and losing emails. LOL

Wow...Old School. We just run a annual report and email all 96 pages to our CPA. We sign electronically what he wants and he sends it all in electronically. Never see the guy anymore. I sure miss his accountant style humor. And the free donuts and coffee in his office.

I totally recommend NOT doing your own taxes. "Do what you do best and let them do what they do best".

X 10. Way too complicated and changes every year. Money well spent to accountants.

that is the crazy part . why do people do there own when it is deductible

Because CPAs make mistakes, that someone like me doing my own won't make. No one cares as much about my finances as I do. My taxes are "complicated" as I own a few businesses etc...I used a CPA once and never will again. $1700 later I ended up redoing everything myself and saved $30k in taxes and no I didn't cheat.

Tax preparers exist because of the supposedly complicated system. They have a vested interest in making you believe you're incapable of doing it on your own. For the average family it just isn't that hard.

Take a crack at it one time...I bet you'll surprise yourself and will probably learn a thing or two that will surprise you.

I also like his signature on my return. Go with a CPA. Not some wannabe tax preparer. My guy keeps me out of a cell with a guy named "Bubba". Accounting and tax law is not my forte'. My CPA was an Eagle scout. (Honest). He charges by the forms needed in my return. Takes care of all the 1099's, quarterlys, can call him with questions and not be billed for them, etc. Runs around $600.00 a year. The guys has saved me thousands upon thousands over the years. He does my kids 1040ez's for free.

All forms and info available at IRS web site. Yes to do your own , it takes getting into it. But you can't let it scare you. Most tax preparers are very good, but there are some that are lax. Just as with everything else.

Two years ago I got audited. The day the IRS was scheduled to come my accountant told me to go to the lake. He handled it all. If that isn't piece of mind I don't know what is.

I have used Tax Act for the past 10 years, $19.95 for state and Federal. Very pleased with this software, but I would use accountant if owning business. CPA's make many mistakes, almost cost me $10k out of pocket when I was running my business yet. Good thing I don't trust them and double check their work.

If you can change your own oil or clean carbs on your sled you can probably do your own taxes...that's all I'm saying.

Lol. 60-66 page return. No way. I can do 1099's , send out sales tax each month to Lansing and print a general ledger thanks to quick books pro. But depreciation schedules, chapt. S corp., sole prop., income property, investment income or losses, rentals, homestead tax credits, social security payments, extensions and wow I got a headache! Have at it. I missed a ton of stuff on my list as I would on my return.
