Lots of talk about ice scratchers lately. One of my groomer drivers just got a new Doo 1200 and wants to do some riding this weekend. We have been out grooming and breaking up the frozen ice on top of the trails, but I still would not ride on them without ice scratchers. One of my other groomers has the tunnel mounted scratchers on his Doo and likes them, but they mount way near the back of the tunnel and I would think they aren't near as effective way back there. Do these work as well as most I see mounted more forward in the suspension? What have you Doo riders found to work the best? Thanks!

I had those - they work.

I switched to the cable style (look a little better IMO and like you said feel they are more effective being more up front for when I need them).

Just make sure you get the ones you can back up with... 100% youll break them off, just a matter of time.

The Doo tunnel mount, reverse able, with the replaceable "carbide tips" work very, very, good. I thought the same as they were mounted too far back, but not at all the case. For cable scratchers, the Canadian Qualipeices "Trail Blizzer" are by far the best available. Scratchers are good insurance these days of repeated thaw, then refreeze!

Not to doubt you Attak man, but are you referring to the Doo scratcher, that is designed to be able to backup with, without damage? I don't have the part number handy? Curious?

They all say they work in reverse..but yet somehow customers break them..lol..I should clarify..mostly the older style with non replaceable tips (XM, XP summit models..pn#860200444, and 860201107).Those are the ones I have seen break.....Right now I only have a couple 860201430's in stk (with replaceable tips)

Well worth the $. I have 2017 MXZ Blizzard 1200 with ski doo tunnel mounted scratchers sled runs cooler in hard pack and ice, low snow conditions, low snow or no loose snow on plowed road conditions and increases hyfax life too. First set of hyfax lasted me 2300 miles. I ride Eagle River/Conover and UP.

My Poo's have always been great on hyfax. I have 4500 and 3500 miles on my 2015 and 2018 Axys' and neither sleds are anywhere near needing new hyfax. I have never had scratchers either.

The Doo has got a lot better on hyfax sense the r-motion suspension but I will bet it has more to do with the driver. My sleds go about 2 to 1 compared to my wife or kid, I’m always looking for soft snow mostly because it’s fun. I had Over 7k on my 2013 when changed and have over 4300 on the 2018. So how you ride can have a lot to do with it. I have never run scratchers but have often contemplated getting them for the one off’s when they may be needed.

I have 2 with original hyfax, 8K plus R motion, and 9K plus SC4, with very limited wear. U.P., and Canadian trails help a bunch, and no studs allow you to run less track tension is the big plus.

the dubbel wound rail mount skidoo scratchers are cool they come on the summits . forward backward all good.very compact only issue I had was 1 mount busted off so scratcher coukd not be hung up. new mount has been holding . I will prob put same ones on my dimond pounder when replacement time comes around .
coukd not pay my to wast my time with the cable ones . every set I have owned total junk . over 1/2 you see on guys sleds, are just bouncing off the ground at best

ezra the QualiPeices Trail Blizzer cable scratcher do work as good, and far better than the most, of any scratcher I've ever seen. Check them out, as their mounting system, cable used, and other parts are superior to any others. To each his own!

The tail blizzers I have work fantastic as well. A few of the sleds I was riding with last week were running hot and/or overheating and I was running right where I always do

Anyone tried these? Was wondering if these can be mounted on a cat skid. We're heading up in 10 days and with the conditions I'm looking at scratchers. Haven't been out yet this year. Last March when riding was wishing I had some. Got by with jumping off the side from time to time but would have been nice to have scratchers instead.

I wouldn't recommend any brand scratcher that doesn't have a replaceable "carbide tip". Just my opinion.

X2 all research says carbide replacement tips and cables best and I still haven’t purchased a pair. I also like the rail eyelet storage. I’m still resisting so is my group but this last storm miss for Northwoods is making it difficult. Lol old snow and ice is what it is.

fyi I was just ridding north of the bridge this weekend on a summit and did not need scratchers when running trail

Right you are whitedust, just tucking the cable over the rail, isn't nearly as good as the vinyl eyelet storage method. If your leaning cable type, definitely look into Qualipieces Trail Blizzer's. Very high quality.
