If it rains today....

GET OFF THE TRAIL!!! All you will be doing is destroying what little base we have...go out to eat, or visit the local watering holes...but park your sleds, until it passes.....some of us would like to ride until the bitter end...if we can preserve the base...we can....colder weather, and the potential for more snow is in the forecast for the end of the week...it isn't over yet...but it will be if dummies ride in the rain (and 40 degree temps)..

I have to say...in all my years...ive never seen this much traffic in the northwoods..GREAT for the businesses...a really good year....normally by the middle of February traffic tails off significantly...not this year...we locals have been spoiled through the years...normally by now we have the trails to our selves...and some excellent riding in march (when we have this amount of snow), especially during the week...im amazed the trails held up as long as they have with the amount of traffic I've seen...absolutely crazy this year

Clubs/County Associations really need to consider a TEMPORARY closing of the trail system during extreme weather conditions... Especially this time of season...Sometimes you have to protect IDIOTS from THEMSELVES...

We were 65 miles from home in I.R. MI. and no choice but riding in a rain/ mist. We looked like m and m's with a hard ice shell on us. I don't really see how we were ruining the trails on our way home.

In a perfect world, yeah. I 100% agree with the sentiment. However....not everybody is fortunate enough to be able to walk out the door and ride whenever the mood strikes. Most of us have to at least drive several hours (or more) take time off work, etc., to make a trip. Asking/telling someone not to ride under those circumstances is wishful thinking at best.

I didn't say I was enjoying it....lol...
Wouldn't have road >away< from home in it...lol.
Down here in SEWI the trails were groomed a couple times but the trail bosses decided to "save the base" and NOT open....and now the season is over so if you bought a $30 ,trail pass or 2 or3 you just got effed.

They were open twice this season...Arlen B. decided to close them both times after being open MAYBE 48 hrs...Yep... I rode Kenosha Co the first day they were open...Rock Co was open for almost a week, and the SUNDOWNER club in Edgerton was open for almost a month...Adams Co was also open for about a week...Northern Wood Co was open for close to a month and just closed on 2/28...

You don’t buy a WI permit for a county you buy it for the entire state. Sometimes you get the luxury of local trail riding sometimes you don’t. Fox river was very rideable for probably a month so there was riding in Racine county. Take what you can get.

Keep eliminating the ppl who ride out of there homes and eliminate more of the snowmobiling base. That is what the trail pass does.
ppl were ok with sending in Reg fee to keep there garage queens going. Eff the snowmobile snobs that say just trailer to where the snow is . You are responsible for screwing the marginal riders out of the sport.

The trails had enough snow to groom twice. In this corner of the state just open up because you most likely will not have another opportunity to " , "USE the precious base"

Not at the risk of pissing off any landowner wait until enough base so riders don’t tear up winter wheat. People come people go that’s the way of things. As I said find some frozen water with snow lube scratch the itch locally then hit the road chase the snow. Sure we all prefer local riding but absolutely nothing anyone can do about the weather and where the snow falls.

We had plenty of frost in the ground. If a landowner says run the trail over winter wheat there is no guarantee what might happen even with a foot of snow. It could be perfectly wind swept. The winter wheat argument is nonsense. Club member and officer for the largest Racine Co club and zero dollars were paid out in winter wheat damage. Either we have permission or we don't. Clubs have money to reimburse for loss. Worrying over every little "what if" will never open trails. The clubs have a duty to provide a trail to ride on now that we are forced to buy a trail pass. These clubs and all the effort put into trail building isn't just so the club can get their miles in for state reimbursement and build up the clubs bank account, but it seems to be the only goal for some. Maybe its because they can afford to drive north every weekend for the good snow. And yes, one day would have certainly better than NONE.

It depends on your personal view I believe clubs do a very good job preparing and maintaining trails which includes keeping landowners happy which can get dicey at times with riders straying off marked trails. In my view clubs will open trails when we have enough snow and frankly I’m not interested in marginal conditions. Others may want to ride on minimal snow I have no interest exposing my sled to crap conditions. I didn’t see any tracks along RT 36 open or not not one bandit taking a run means wasn’t worth it. Paying for winter wheat damage is not a good thing it’s paying for damages. Farmers will take the money but why if it can be avoided.

You are entitled to nothing because you bought a trail pass, other than not being arrested for just being on the trail.

Way different story up there...triple the snow where u were riding...we had about a 3 inch base....30 miles north of us it doubles...and yeah..if you blow the base off a trail this time of year, it's toast for the rest of the season...call me selfish...but I'd prefer not ride in the rain and in 40 degree weather, so I can ride again when the conditions allow. ..but some people don't care...they'll ride when they damn well please...cant stop it...I guess I was hoping to appeal to someone's common sense....but few have that anymore

Attackman,
I'm not sure what your snow looks like with rain on it, from my experience it turns to heavy slush. Personally, I would not enjoy riding in rainy/ slushy conditions anyhow and it is ok to ask ppl not to ride but I doubt many would if it was like we experienced a couple years ago with frozen face shields.....LOL
I hope the damage wasn't too bad ....what does it look like up there today?

Can’t be good. I’ve got a few very large branches down at my place in Florence and was thinking the trails has to have trees/branches down too. My place is covered in ice right now

You sound like a control freak soup nazi in your statement above....LOL...I never used the word entitled.... nice try though. Most ppl without an argument have to put words in other ppls mouths, or posts like you did.

Again plenty of frost in the ground and over 4" of snow and groomed twice and not opened is wrong in my opinion. No one down here is asking for pristine trails before they open up. And no one will be forced to ride them if they chose not to.
