Figure out the time required to put everything back plus an estimate on the hillside damage. Lock/block the rig and tell them the fee they'll need to pay in order to leave. Take pictures of the damage so you have evidence. If they refuse let them know you'll be turning them into the local police and insurance company.....they can pay you now or pay you later. Jerks!

Also just me but I would be posting signs that say due to property damage and for other actions by inconsiderate people, no parking except for paying customers, etc, or with prior written persmission, etc. Then tow the violators and be done with it.

This sucks Lori. However you decide to handle this just make sure it gets handled. These guys need to know they've done wrong. Isn't there a public parking lot right across the road?

Well I ranted and did a soft follow up,took pictures of the vechiles, and had the officer see the snow damage, after all it is only snow other then where they tore down to the grass. I did leave the note which was gone when the police officer came to check it out. While sitting at the diner in Toivola I saw them go by with their trucks and trailers. It kinda feels like the beaten wife syndrome, you love the friendships, the customers, the ops. to be nice to others, then you get a slap in the face, uuummmm. If Dave decides to go hunting look out he's a on target hunter , still may start posting pictures of the renagedes invading the Yoop.

I would work a deal with a tow corp they will post the signage for you and toss a few kick backs for every call.
it is not bad business if you are disrespected first.
the crazy thing is I have offed money to biz owners all over DA UP to park for the day. none would take my money and always tell me to just park don't worry about it.

It's not crazy, You asked and that's pretty much all they want.

Sounds like it's just common courtesy. I would think if I had a large truck and trailer and was taking up a big chunk of a parking lot I would ask if I could park somewhere. Also I'd ask should it be moved at a certain time for plowing etc...

Asking is courteous.....park & ride without asking is ignorance.

Good luck, You could also put up a sign on a piece of plywood saying something like "disrespectful ignorant morons park right here so we can tow you" with a big arrow of course.

I would be cautious about towing them as you could incur damages. Call the police and have them take the action. Most tow trucks are not going to hook up if they don't have any authority to protect themselves. Friend had problems with poeople using his driveway as parking lot and he was advised, call police first before having anything towed so there is a legal record as the owners can contest it.

A vehicle may be considered abandoned when it is:

DO SOMETHING ----- having a parking lot in downtown St. Paul it IS easier to tow now and ask later. Everyone has an excuse and they are just like arseholes ------ they all stink!

I've had many vehicles towed in the last few years, by me calling to have them towed. Here is how it's done. You call the police and let them know your going to have it towed (in case it's reported stolen), then you call the tow company and they take it away. If they want there vehicle back they pay. It's a simple fix. I would say I have made the call to have 8-10 vehicles towed in 2011.

I actually emailed lori but they were booked up so we had to stayed somewhere else, hopefully gonna stay there next time looks like a great place.

I was informed by local law enforcement, all that is required of the "Property Owner" is to post prominant signage that clearly states NO PARKING, VEHICLE WILL BE TOWED AT THE VEHICLE OWNERS EXPENSE. You as the property owner now have the legal right to have the vehicle removed. Sounds kind of silly right, it's your property, but, without the sign, you cannot legally have the squatters removed. Now, in a situation like Lori's, this sign could be worded in a number of way's to accomodate what her wishes are related to parking, but simply put, the above sign is all it will take to be safe.-Mezz

here's the rest of the story, warning could be long.......well the police officer said it's in my court, we can have them removed or you can have a little fun with them and plow them in. So the evil voice in my head said have them towed, the good voice in my head said, Lori they paid $45 a pc. for trail permits ( SHOULD BE RIDING THE TRAILS NOT PRIVATE PROPERTY), traveled hours to get here, are tourist hopefully spending money in the area, had a good day of riding( hopefully) then come back and the trucks and trailers are gone! That would not have been a good ending. So I let it slide, hoping maybe they are John D'ers and get the message from others, other then from me. After seeing them drive by while in Toivola I came back to the office to find my note written on , with their reply, they didn't do it it was the other truck parked there. Even left me their phone #, so I'm thinking to myself see Lori best you didn't jump the gun, even though I saw them drop and leave out of the drive way and heard them ripping up the hill side to Trimountain. Funny thing is this a.m. MANDAN51 saw my post and called me, he was the truck they were blaming, he also came in that morning and asked yet again and insisted I take $20 for allowing him to park, he actually talked with them for quite awhile. So there again an example young people don't take responsability,it's always it wasn't me.So I'm still debating on how to handle future issues, as we have plenty of room, and want to be known as friendly lodging owners. Mezz and Caged beagle have offered good advice and caged beagle offered to make the signs, see there are good peeps out there! So yes I was soft. I also had a comment to Scottiking, were you practicing a pose for Play Girl on that rug, or are you getting ready for the next hide Dave decides to have made into a rug?

I am telling you call a towing company they will supply the sign with there number on the sign and they will have a few to pick from.
like no parking with out permit you will be towed . unauthorised vehicles will be towed at owners expense.
like I said it is not bad business if you were disrespected first.
the kick backs will make you feel better about it.
a permit can be as ez as a post it note with a date on it so under a buck a yr done deal.
most guys want to pay you for taking up your space. I know I feel better even if I only buy the owner a pop.
guess I am just a few yrs older than the entitlement generation that I loth
