Indy 600 vs Indy 600 SP

Had them all now on 2012 Apex XTX demoed single shot yesterday just to keep up with current tech. The whole Indy concept not right for me but I understand it will suit some. Makes a lot of sense if you want to use an Indy up trade for another every year but keeping an Indy would not work for me. I need a more powerful & robost sled that can take a lickin & keep on tickin. I would prolly meltdown an Indy or flat out destroy it...just not made for pounding unplowed Frs & power cruising but would be fine for putt putt on Vilas snirt.

Indy SP will handle any whooped out hammered trail that Vilas County or the Yoop has to offer as well or better than a sled coming in well over 100#'s heavier. Unplowed area's on a 121 well it's like bringing a knife to a gun fight and not designed for that type of use.
While the Indy may not be designed for your style riding it is an incredibly capable ride and would have no more need to be upgraded every other year than the 2012 Apex you are currently on!
Meltdown or Flat Out Destroy an Indy??? Really? So your more hardcore than all Indy owners out there?

2 of my friends just got '16s indys for 5912+tax. One paid 600 more for an extra yr of warranty n elec start.

I have been snowmobiling for over 40 years and currently own 2013 Indy SP after coming off a 2011 Rush Pro R. The Indy is very capable and can run with anything out there right of the factory for less $$$. If your Indy can't keep up or go all day it's the talent level behind the handlebars that's holding it back.

Yeppers just would not work for me as I said before...Indy not meant for power cruising, banging Frs, powder crossing lakes all the stuff I do everyday. I have melted down every 2s I ever had probably all the highspeed power cruising I do for hours on end. As I also said Indy would be a good Vilas groomed trail sled the market it was intended to serve. Believe me the Indy would not survive 1 season for me but not intented for the type of riding I do & not marketed to me. Indy a great bang for the new sled buck for the correct groomed trail application but not for hardcore power cruising that would be silly to expect an Indy to do what it is not intended to do.

I think the guy was asking about 2 sleds, not how it would perform for any one person. I don't think he asked how it would do power cruising, banging FR's etc, or did I miss that? ;)

Agree but Greg seemed to think he wanted to compare Apex XTX to Indy to my riding style whcih is silly. I just responded to light hearted hoosier comment thought I only bought Yamahas...lol...told him I owned all OEMs. Sometimes it is better to read the entire thread than pick up on 1 post that relates to another post...but anywhoo I know you are kidding and hoosier got lots of info & opinions.:)

Pete, I did read through all the other posts and there was a lot of good information to answer Hoosiers questions. I did however find it a bit off that you would make the statement "Prolly meltdown an Indy or Flat Out Destroy It". I am not sure what part of the Indy is not robust enough to handle the U.P. riding but is only suitable for a Putt Putt on Vilas County Snirt or must be updated every year? Kind of an insult to those who spent their hard earned cash on a very nice sled and one that is capable of logging many miles in many conditions with out being destroyed!

The only thing silly about my post was that I did not take the time to answer Hoosier's question.

Hoosier: My apology for muddying up your post. I would certainly upgrade to the SP if it is in your budget! The track and shock package is worth the extra cash. If you are unhappy with the current valving in the Fox shocks they can easily be sent out for a custom valve job! The Indy's are the most advanced sleds in there class and price range and are true over achievers! The chassis is lightweight and strong with a durable proven 600 2-stroke motor that is noted as the strongest in class.

Well we know it wasn't you. Whoever noted it spelled it correctly. Haha
LOL - exactly!
449 lbs. vs. 600+ dry, I'll take the lighter weight sled any day. It will cruise all day at 75-80 too, so don't exaggerate. Apex great lake runner, but 1% of population wants that.

Now that this thread has moved to comparing a dirt bike feel to a corvette, let me add something.
Like WD i have put 10,000's a miles on the Yamaha 4 strokes and on many of the same trails.

I guess I was feeling "stuck in the mud" so 2 years ago when I found a great deal on an Indy SP 600 I thought why not take a break from the (heavy) 4 strokes and ended up putting close to 4000 miles on it.

None of my stuff gets babied and I certainly didn't coddle the Indy......And I may have said this before....it was the most fun I have had on a sled in years. I still like my Yamahas and have 2. They are fun and if I had to run more than 50% grades and lakes in a day I'd probly jump on one of the 4 strokes.

These are 2 very different sleds and the indy 2 stroke will obviously need a rebuilding before any 4 stroke but the engine will wear out at abut the same rate as the chassis.

BTW... Hoosier....the "great" deal I got on my leftover Indy SP was several hundred more than what Polaris is blowing them out for this season. I'd go with the SP.
Just one more thing, these cfi 2 strokes give surprisingly good fuel mileage that was very close to the same as my 4 stroke Yamahas.

The efi is deff a plus in fuel.
yesterday we were all running on fumes the 10doo 800 gade ran out first .only 1 we could get gas out of was a 15 600gade e etec when rolled on side . the 15 switchback 6 and 8s were pretty close on the guage 1 bar my carb 600 ran out in my trailer about 15 mi past where 800 carb ran out. the 600 poo switchback ran out on the way to get gas today prob a extra 9 mi on it from when my 600 carb ran out . he had jerry can with just wanted to see how far he could get .

Thanks for the all the tips and opinions. My plan before this sale was to buy this Fall - I'll be in a better position cashwise then than I am right now. I think I'm going to stick with that, and cross my fingers there will still be deals on the 16 Indy then. I can't imagine if they are blowing them out now in January mid-season that there won't still be some around then. I'm going to keep thinking about it though - I can't do anything before President's day either way anyway.

As far as SP vs base, it seems the SP is worth the extra coin because you get better skis, shocks and handlebars out of it. I may or may not switch out the track but even if I do, that won't cost much since I can get decent money out of the one on it.

I'm not big on winding out the top end on a lake or railroad grade, so I think the 2 stroke is fine for me...

Well Greg you get what you pay for and I don't think I insulted anyone but your have to answer to peeps you sold to not me...lol... I certainley didn't direct any of my comments to you personally or Trackside & I don't know why I would? I'm not going to list all the problems with my last 2s sled & engine from shocks, springs & blown engine as I stated 2s not going to hold up for me & Indy fits that pattern. Now Hoosier could luv the Indy for his style of riding ..imo... SP is the better buy. Hoosier asked about upgrading so we responded simple as that.
