Insurance question

Is it mandatory to have insurance on all sleds in Wisconsin and Michigan? I have heard both ways. I have two sleds that may only make one trip up this year and their older sleds just wondering if I can go without insurance on them. I insure my sled that I ride every trip I just would hate to spend the money on only one trip.

usualy if u call your agent before u go up they will insure u for a week or so with liability.

the bad buzz is if u do wreck and some one gets hurt u are Fwked big time say by by to anything u own or will own .your fault or not.

I know Illinois requires mandatory liabilty and I am almost sure wisconsin does also. My last insurance company insured them with a"rider" on my home insurance. I just changed providers and insured the sleds for about $320 for liability only (three sleds). A snowmobile safety course will also help keep the cost down. I am not worried about sled damage as much as injury. Its not worth going without liabilty insurance at least. If you have a new sled; full coverage all the way. Good luck.

Have a 2008 f8... best price I could find was 404... probably looked at 6 different companies. My philosophy is this... 9 out of 10 years you wont need it... but it will take just once to wish I did have it.

Here is another interesting question, had a guy told me he did it. Signs up for insurance at beginning of year... say December 1st... when he takes his last ride he cancels the insurance. He then only pays a portion of the premium. I figured it was a 12 month plan. Anyone else do this or heard of this?

Not "Required" in MI, however, as stated by lotoftoys, it's definetly not worth going without liability at the very least. Put it on all of the sleds your taking. The premium you pay should be minimal & will be far less than loosing your azz in the event of a law suit.-Mezz

I just switch my sleds from my regular ins. co to a guy out of Mchenry, IL went from around $450 for '02 600 xpxc Polaris & '03 600 classic to $110 and that includes the 2 place trailer... He is a sledder and uses the same insurance on his sleds... Anybody what his number can PM me. This is stand alone insurance, not attached to any other policy and I was able to do it all over the phone... his auto rates were good too but that may be for another time.
