Interesting story on world record attempt

Cloudy and a high of 22 for tomorrow at Baudette. Low of 2. Temps shouldn't be an issue. Winds up to 20 mph. Which will help keep the dust from being a factor. I do not think you can go wide open on a TCat for an hour without running out of gas. I know I can't on my Winder. They might be gassing up more often than they think. Maybe they have added capacity somewhere.

Here's a link for all the information including donation opportunities. It looks like they're going to show this on FaceBook and YouTube scheduled to start around Noon CST. The link will take you to all the information surrounding this event.

I got an email from Skiroule who lives near Baudette and he says the lake is very rough this year due to high winds. He went on to say that the location hasn't been announced, maybe for safety reasons. They probably don't want people wandering around out there with Willie and the Cat doing 100+ They've had a week to get things groomed so let's hope for the best. That picture makes it look ideal!
Yeah we got lucky when we rode up there from Cook about 6 weeks ago. Clear sky’s, temps around 10-15 above, not a lot of wind, and as you can see, freshly groomed! Very cool area to ride with little to no sled traffic. Lots of areas they could cordon off for a big track as long as no fisherman wander in.

I've been watching off & on this afternoon. Wish they had some aerial of the runs which appear to be straight line runs with a turnaround at each end. Here's a couple of screen grabs from some of the action. This was right around the 300 mile mark. Averaging 89 mph.

Checked out the record-breaking attempt this afternoon. It was pretty cool that a person could just walk right up to the action.

If you watched any of the live feed, it was evident that there were lulls in the action, which gave me a chance to talk to some of the people involved and check out the backup sled. Four hours in, they felt they were ahead of the pace they needed to break the record.

As Gary mentioned, it was basically a five-mile straight line course with a banked turn at each end. He was making one complete round trip in a little over seven minutes. He could make eight round trips on a tank of gas with about a gallon and a half reserve.

They seemed to be really organized with respect to pit stops and adjustments, etc. A typical pit stop was less than 30 seconds. While I was there, they did a primary clutch replacement and belt change in eighty three seconds.

Might go back tomorrow morning and see how they are doing. One thing is for sure, the guy must like to ride.

It was funny. For some reason when I left, there was this temptation to just pin it and hold it.

A few shots from today.

Thanks Kelly! You're fortunate to see something like this near your home up close and personal. Looked like a nice day to be out there too. The pictures are great!

He is still going, putting on the extra miles. Amazing accomplishment, one man, one snowmobile. Great work by him and his team!

I sure hope they change a whole bunch of things on the Sidewinders and TCats for 2023. The outdated chassis just isn't any good for anything. Except going really fast and getting world records.

Like a clean sheet new platform. Have to move on sooner or later ,already later. Procross getting a lot like the Yamaha delta box goes on forever until consumer says no point in buying new same old same old. Lol

I know I said this before but this was really cool to see in person. He blew away the original solo mileage record goal over two hours early. Once he broke that I think he might have actually picked up the pace a little to really push up the mileage total.

You wouldn’t think there would be much finish line drama at the end of a 24-hour distance run but there was a little. In order to get credit for an any of the last lap mileage at the end he had to finish the lap before time expired. He made it by 8 seconds, gave him an extra 10 miles.

Think this event said as much about the man as the machine. When you think about the physical and mental discipline it takes to stay in control of a sled at those speeds for that long it’s impressive.

A friend asked him if he wanted to go riding tomorrow. He said “Sure, if you can keep up.” Have to admire his style.

What I liked was that he took both his wife and his daughter for a little victory loop each. It was also nice to see that both his mother and father were there, very family-oriented effort.

A lot of you probably checked in on the live feed but here’s a short collection of clips from my perspective.
