Any truth to the Rumor that the New mayor of Ironwood, MI. doesn't want any Snowmobile traffic going through there? Talked to a guy Today that came back from there and said they are Grooming up to Ironwood from the Michigan side and Stopping.

He was told the Mayor doesn't want the Snowmobile traffic from Wisconsin or Michigan going through there.

I seriously doubt that rumor...Horse would probably have a few words to say about that if had to guess as would several other buisness owners I know.

The following information is off of Wikipedia:

Ironwood's city government, like many other small Michigan communities, consists of a 5-member city council with the top vote receiver serving as Mayor. Day-to-day operations are the responsibility of the City Manager, who reports directly to the council during their two monthly, public meetings.

Looks like it would take more than 1 person to make the call.

I think you are not allowed to ride in town or maybe in town after a certain time.I was stopped late one night going back to the super 8 buy a cop who told me I wasn't aloud to ride down the street and told me to just go to my motel.it was after 2 and maybe he was just wanting to check if I was drunk I don't know.

Would be very stupid & end of his/their political career. Sleds would come thru anyway no stopping that .....birds fly south in winter & sleds come thru Ironwood in the winter. Maybe he wants a ghost town so he can be the mayor of nothing. If UP can't make money in winter in they are doomed to a very lean year.

On the subject of Ironwood, if you're looking for a great place to have a good meal, or just relax after a long day of riding, the Olde Suffolk Ale House in Ironwood is great. Usually stop in after putting the sleds to bed for the night and cleaning up. However, we have stopped there a few times on sled. The only thing is you have to park your sled at the old train station down town and walk 1-1/2 blocks to the east. From where you park your sled, it would be at the intesection of the 2nd stop light. It's kitty corner from River Valley Bank. A great selection of import beers, and a Saturday Prime Rib dinner that is 2nd to none.

If you're looking for a routy place, this place won't be for you. But if you're looking to relax, unwind, and socialize with some laid back music, check it out. You won't be disappointed!!

The issue of snowmobile use in the city of ironwood are far from over. There was a meeting held last week, where the anti-snowmobile Mayor attempted to dispel rumors that he was opposed to snowmobiles.
There will be another meeting on the same subject next week by the parks and recreation committee. That committee is very anti-motorized motor sports. It is headed up by Sam Davey the owner of Davey Motel in Ironwood.
The anti-motor sport mayor is also a motel owner, he owns Classic Motor Inn in Ironwood.... Go Figure.
The biggest problem in the anti- motor sport group is Ron Taylor, who works at Mike's Restaurant in Ironwood. Wonder if his boss is also anti-motorized sports.
Ironwood also has an anti-motor sport news web site, the Superior Chronicle. The Mayor appointed this site as the city's official web site.
Every other community surrounding Ironwood, including Ironwood Township embraces motor sports!

Are these guys mad that they don't get any of the sled buisiness, or what? That would really thrill the folks over in Hurley, wouldn't it?

How in the heck can someone who owns a motel, NOT cater to snowmobilers? What a bunch of idiots.

This don't sound like the Daveys motel we would stay at in the 80s and 90s! they would cater to us snowmobilers big time(use his heated shop ,take us on rides, run the groomer) he always had skidoos. the last time i stayed there was 1996 he had a 96 ski doo f3
