Is fogging really necessary?

Bingo. Anything that is injected has a high pressure fuel pump. Many have a low pressure pump that supplies the high pressure pump. You do not want to starve the high pressure pump. They are very expensive to replace. This whole business of running everything dry started with carbed sleds. It wasn't a bad idea for them but in the fall when you try to get them going again it could be a pain to get everything primed and pumping again. Just remember that oxygenated gas has a shelf life of about a month. I had bad luck with StaBil once so now I use Sea Foam. To each their own. Make sure you use something or sooner or later you will get bit. Very important to run the machine awhile after you put whatever your favorite additive in the tank. You have to get it into the carb/injectors/fuel rail/fuel lines - entire system.

As did I, which is why I also use Sea Foam. I put it in the tank when I take my last ride of the year, that way I know it's mixed good and circulated throughout.

I will be treating my gas with Startron from now on. I also start the sled once or twice a month during the off season, never any issues doing this. If you can't start your sled during the off season, fogging is the way to go.

StarTron Rocks! I've seen it work first hand. Little ATV that sat for 4 years with gas in it. Wouldn't start. Poured the StarTron in the tank (nothing else), and two days later, started right up! Amazing.

I dont intend to raise a big stink here on this but i will share some first hand evidence i seen with my own eyes.Stabil use to be a good product before the ethanol in the gas.If you use the original stabil in gas with ethanol i have seen it in a sealed bootle test and as it sets over time you will end up with 3 layers 1 will be gas 1 will be ethanol from phase seperation and the other will be water. There are a few products that i have also seen tested that i have seen no issues with i personaly use seafoam the others are gasx, startron and amsoil one shot.I am shure there are a few others that may be ok but i have personaly seen these tested and seen no issues with them.Stabil also now has stabil marine but i have not seen it tested but after what i seen with the regular stabil i will stay away from it.As far as fogging i start my sleds once a month dureing of season so i dont,,but if i didnt start them i would fogg them.

Does the amsoil one shot work for off-season storage (as a fuel preserver, not a crank bearing coater). I thought it was more of an ethanol curer for in-season use.

Fogging is the act of spraying a liberal amount of oil into the motor to coat the crank, bearings, and cylinders in a protective oil that will prevent corrosion. It is important to do if you use certain oils that do not contain rust inhibitors. Most good oils will automatically protect your surfaces but if you store your sled outside it's still a good idea to fog it.

Fuel stabilizers don't do anything for you. With todays modern gas the proper way to store a machine is with no gas in it. If you are storing it for 3 months or more drain the tank and the carbs.

Last weekend I sprayed a bunch of fogging oil in the cylinders and turned it over a few times by hand on the clutch. Also put seafoam in the tank, greased all the fittings and cleaned her up. Sled is still jetted for the snowies so I didn't want to start it. Still gotta figure out if I want to go back to the stock jetting or get a little more aggressive. I'll drain the gas before the season starts anyway, and probably clean the carbs when I rejet...

I thought running it with 10,000 ft jetting would be a bad idea?

I'm not sure that it would hurt anything, I mean, your just going to let it warm up a bit, maybe bump the throttle once or twice. Not like your going to pin it on the stand......
