Is it safe to travel to Cancun Mexico?

I have been down to the Rivera Maya the past 3 years and never had any problems as long as you don't adventure out on any excursions. The ocean is beautiful down there!

Why Mexico this time of year? My family always wanted to go to Northern Ontario in the winter. Prime time to the north also! Always made sense to me. Sweating in a land that speaks spanish is not my idea of fun. What the heck is to do there after you buy a fake Rollex and some lead painted pottery. We have tequila here. If it is a "lay around in the sun and dealing with sand in your @$%^ crack" type vacation Hawaii is by far a better choice. At least in Hawaii you can drink the water, eat the ice and not worry if that thing on a spit is Lamb or German shepard.

Playa del Fargo, Los Winnipeg, San Jaun Omaha, Vera Duluth and El Wausau would be my recommendation if you're looking for something a little less crowded this time of year.

just got back from an all inclusive in cancun with wife an kids, i didnt see any danger zones while there, airport said media has blown it out of the water, granted the borders are dangerous, i would go back next week if i had the chance in a heart beat, it was $1500 cheaper then last year at the same place

Cancun

I am a travel agent and have people going to Cancun and the Riviera Maya all the time and have never had an issue. Most of the issues are at the border towns which are over a thousand miles away.

I just got back Monday. I go quite often and also go on excursions and tours of resorts, never had any problems. People just need to be smart just like you should be here in the U.S.

And since there aren't any all-inclusives in the U.S. (except one), that's why people travel to the Caribbean and Mexico. A vacation to Florida would cost more than it would to go out of the country. Plus you get treated like a King and have premium food and drinks 24/7 on a beautiful beach!

If I'm not snowmobiling I am probably somewhere in Mexico or the Caribbean! If anyone needs any information I'd be glad to help. Best rates and no fees!

Penicilin is cheap. "Tailand" is how I heard it it spelled. $2000 there is like $2 million here. Oh!, (disclaimer) I have never been there.

I was in Cancun in March and had no issues at the resort(which awesome) nor down town. Just got back from Puerto Rico and I think I'd choose PR over Cancun if I were to go again. PR was cheaper and it's nice that no pass ports are needed and no customs lines to go through!

I live down here in Mexico and would have to agree that the media blows everything out of proportion. I lived in Flint for 4 years for school and I feel much safer down here. I have not yet been over in the Cancun area yet but am planing to go in May to one of the surronding cities. As long as you are smart about it you wont have a problem.

Thanks for all the feedback!
It was actually a travel agent that told a freind that they could cancel their Cancun trip and get a full refund because the violence has gotten worse. We decided to go to Jamaica. My daughter wants to do the zip line at YS Falls. I don't think I would feel safe going on excursions with my family in Mexico.
