Is my sled a total loss?

Tough day in Brainerd, I hit a rock with the F6. The bulk head is split where the a-arm attaches. It has vertical and horizontal splits approx. 2-3 inches long. I don't know how anyone could weld this back in place so that it is safe to ride. Any thoughts on my options? I do have full coverage ( $700 deduct.) Thanks for the input. J

My ins comp totalled out my '03 Mountain Cat a couple weeks ago, the tunnel was cracked on both sides. Not sure if this helps or not...

I would say prob yes before you call for your check drive around to some body and welding shops to see what it would cost to have them fix so you know if you want to buy it back from ins.what yr f6?most ins now looks around at comps for sale in the area and that is what you get.you kinda get the big banana this time of yr.my bud just had a xfire7 with 1400mi in great shape was given 5000 before deduct.if you have any aftermarket parts pull them new carbide swap them for some junk floats swap them get my drift they wont pay you for that stuff

the f series bulkheads are stamped alum and are weldable. The cast parts are usualy not. I have done some successfull welding on the cat bulkheads. Have to determine if you want to keep it, buy it back, or just let it go if they total it. May depend on your record for insurance claims too. Some will give you a couple claims, but any more and they can drop you altogether, or raise the rates so much you would drop them. A body shop that is certified in BMW or other high end cars should have qualified welding equipment and skilled workers to repair it, if you don't have a trusted welding shop close by.

The way to determine if a sled is totaled is to take the repair cost and add it to the salvage value of the sled. If those two exceed the value of the sled then it is a toal loss for insurance purposes. No way the insurance co would figure to repair the bulkhead. They would not want to get involved withe the potential liability. Most companies figure nada as the value which you know are pie in the sky figures.

Carlj, where did you find rocks like that here in Brainerd? Gives me second thoughts about boondocking Pillsbury next weekend.
