Is there anywhere in the UP where natural snow lasts until July?

On my morning jog, I sometimes ponder the heavy things in life. I seem to recall some pictures posted on this forum several years ago showing John and others riding in early June on a few patches of snow way up high on the spine of the Keweenaw. Did this happen or am I completely misremembering this? That made me wonder if there is anyplace in the UP that might hold on to natural snow into July (whether rideable or not)?
Thanks.

I can recall a Mothers Day at one point where the group had found snow with their 4 wheeler's. As far as June or July, not that I can remember, but, then again, sometimes I can't remember what I had for lunch yesterday! -Mezz

We've had a couple years since we've been here (fall '02) that there was rideable snow on some shaded forest roads in early June...kind weird that you could ride in shorts but I never quite had the nerve...July I've never seen any...central U.P.

Back in the early 90's I remeber getting snow on the 4th of July but it didn't last. When I was in ND 96-97 the year of the floods, there was snow still in some shelter belts in July.

A guy I work with lived on Lake Gogebic his whole life and he remembered as a kid flurries on or around the 4th of July...Ive ridden several times in early May and as late as the 14th...from my house in Boulder. Now that is not perfect conditions but rideable snow....

cannot say anything on snow in the UP, but for me here in PA
last 10 yrs or so, I have been trying to see how long I can make snow here in NE PA last, by building the tallest piles I can where the sun doesn't get to it much, longest I have had it last so far is first week in june
and thats well over a month monger than I can find it any where else in PA LOL

this yr the pile is a good 20+ ft tall and as wide or more, and a a bunch of rains inbetween that have a bunch of thick ice layers

so, will see what happens this yr
only flaw I had this yr was excessive road salt got dumped on my drive way, and I plowed some of that into my main pile
so might have screwed me some with doing so
My neighbors get a kick out of what I do though, and my local bears always seem to really enjoy the pile, they will roll about on it after a long winters sleep to clean themselves off using it!

Yeah, well I had thoughts of doing that this year with our generous snow, but did not follow thru. You should have posted this mid February, eh!

well no one asked about it in feb

or I would have

like I said, I been doing this a lot of yrs now

this yr, I also had a bunch of ice storms that took the tops off some pine tree's that used to help keep my pile in the shade better
so, this spring, things maybe will melt faster from that too??
its 19 degree's right now, sunny
and calling for 50 my 3 pm>

so the melt is on !!

I got lots of snow i can still stack up, when pile melts some, cannot get pile any taller as is with my skid steer, I'm maxed out on what I can stack with it till some melts

if I had more room I could have got a LOT more snow this yr too
as my neighbor, got sick of piles in his yard and brought in a tri axle dump truck and hauled out a few loads
had I had more room I'd of had him dump it all here LOL
I like snow, I Guess
some here NOT so much

never understood why anyone would move where it is supposed to snow in winter time and then Complain about it when it does??
its like the city idiots that move into the rural places /woods and forested area's then complain about wildlife being there??
got a bunch of them living near me anymore, moved in the past 2-3 yrs
I laugh when they tell me how critters ate there designer plantings they planted in there yards
I tell them its like planting a salad bar for deer here , its just wasted money and crying to the game warden isn't going to help , cannot fix stupid as they say! LOL

mrbb-

Put 4" or more of sawdust or 6" or more of woodchips on it and it might make it all summer! https://thelibrary.org/lochist/periodicals/bittersweet/sp77j.htm

If you mix sawdust and water together and freeze it, it's called pykrete. The US and Brits were looking into using pykrete to build aircraft carriers towards the tail end of WW II. Unsinkable and could be easily repaired.

Our greatest snow riding season also started with a ice, then snow storm. Our White pine tops took a real beating, twice. The Derecho of late summer, and the 2 ice/snow storms have the trees looking very ugly! However the 2 ice/snow storms did laid down a perfect base, and that kept any snow that fell after on the ground. And perfect to ride on until our melt started 10 days ago! Set a record for the ground being snow covered, from many years back. The best snowmobiling riding conditions ever in over 50years. Reminds me of the winters I grew up in!
If I had access to sawdust to do so I would try it, but don't have any

and well, where I pile snow, I do sort of have a project in the works with a retaining wall I been aiding to a little every yr
all he more so as of last yr, when a neighbor passed away, and new neighbors now ain;t as fond of wildlife as the old neighbor

so, adding the wall, helps steer things away from there property

I tell you, you don't know how good you have it with a GOOD neighbor till you loose them and get a BAD one !!

I'll never understand how or why folks from the city, feel a need to move to the WOODS to live /retire, and then cry and complain about wildlife!
its like they expect wildlife to move away cause THERE there now?/

all the more so when all the land around them is in highly managed sportsman clubs that is doing everything it can to have TONS of wildlife there LOL
Guess some folks might be book smart and well, not so smart in other ways
