I’m staying with a group at the Negaunee Train Depot this coming Monday thru Thursday (1/27 - 1/30). I know the snow is great to the east, but some in my group would prefer not to trailer each day. It’s seems difficult to get any trail information for the Ishpeming/Big Bay Area. Does anyone have any recent reports to share for that area? Thanks!

Returned yesterday from our trip to Negaunee. We rode through Ishpeming, Republic, and Big Bay. The trails were fantastic everywhere we went. There is not as much snow as in the eastern or western UP, but with little to no traffic the groomed trails held up wonderfully. Between our last 60 miles on Tuesday, and our first 65 miles on Wednesday, we did not encounter 1 sled. 125 miles without seeing another sled. Just amazing!

8 was good shape heading east from 5 on Saturday afternoon/evening on way back from big bay.

I rode the Ishpeming area each of the last 2 weeks. Trail 8 was fantastic on Sunday until just before Nestoria, where the Baraga groomers take over. I didn’t ride past Nestoria, so I can’t say for sure but my assumption is that it didn’t get any better as it got closer to Baraga. Trail 18 down to Republic was great also, but I didn’t ride west out of Republic. I circled back on 5, which was great also. Trails 5, 310, and 14 around Big Bay were fantastic both times we rode them.
