I'm told that you have a better chance of being struck by lightning than catching the coronavirus and dying. The media would have us believe differently, it's now considered a Pandemic. Colleges are shutting down to eliminate people from spreading it though I suspect the beaches of Florida will be populated during Spring Break. There are plans to play the NIT and NCAA college games without fans, only family and staff allowed in. Me thinks there's too much money to be lost so I'll wait and see on that one. Another panic....we're running out of toilet paper? Really? And don't get me started on what this has done to the stock market and the 401K's. The media stokes the fires and the next day turns into the next panic.

Please note that I avoided going political in my venting. I'd be glad to hear your thoughts but keep it middle of the road, no need to go left or right. Thanks!

Pretty sure most of us are sitting here and trying to make sense of this as well.

I trust no one, TV media wise.
Rule number 1....if nothing about it makes any sense.....IT IS BULLSCHIT.

The strategy seems to be send everyone home for 2 weeks and see what happens. Wait it out. We will see what the Donald has to say tonight. I think he is now scheduled to speak at 9pm eastern / 8 central.

its a damn cold at best.....You are a bright guy,....ask your self this.....why don't we have more reported facts about those who have had it and then moved on....age, symptoms, time frame, severity?
zero zilch nada.... ask why?....because it would ruin the plot.

Idiots. It is airborne. We are all going to get it. Sooner or later. If you live in a third world country you have a 3.8 chance of dying. If you live in the USA you have a 78 percent chance of getting screwed over by a toilet paper manufacturing company.

When this is all said and done it will be a graphic reminder of be where be the world is at. A snapshot if you will. The country s like the US and UK and Australia will have a death rate if about .5 percent. The third world countries in like China and Iran that still wipe their buttes with their left hands will have a Much higher death rate. Crude and rude but accurate. Wash your hands and wipe your Butte. Always good words to live by.

Took my daughter to the ER on Monday night because I knew she had bronchitis and maybe pneumonia. X-ray confirmed my suspicions. She has a history of this happening. After the doctor left the room the nurse then tells me my family should stay at home. I said excuse me, is that professional advice or your personal opinion. She said it's what we should do. I made her call the doctor back and asked if my family needed to stay at home. He said no your daughter has pneumonia. I then repeated what the nurse had told me. He was very upset and asked the nurse what else she had told people.

There is a good chance many people in this country will get coronavirus. Most people will be fine. The main problem is that unlike the flu there is no vaccine to help people with weaker immune systems. Thus it is worse for certain demographics. But panicking will not help anyone. It just needs to be dealt with.

So here is my current dilemma. Nora, Grace and I are to fly out for spring break on the 18th. Because of my health issues, I am one of those that could be in bad shape if I were to contact this bug. I have a regular Dr's appointment on the 16th and will be seeing what he has to say. If he says do not fly, then we are out a ton of $ (if we cannot get refunds on flight and lodging). From all that I have read on respectable sites about this virus, low chances on aircraft. Just keep washing hands and keep them away from face at all times.

Fingers crossed.

Just in case, anyone have any experience in getting refunds from airlines due to Dr orders? Same for VRBO? I plan to go through the VRBO contract today to see about what it says.

I'm not one to hit the panic button, and I don't think you are either John, but with your health issues, I definitely would be a little more concerned. How many cases reported in the state you are going to?

We are going to Florida. 19 cases reported according to the CDC.

John, most of the airlines are offering free changes for anyone flying in the next month, you shouldn't have a problem there. Not sure they'll give a refund, but you can at least pick yourself out something later in the year after this all blows over.

Most airlines have allowed a one time re-book (Allegiant and Delta which I have been emailed by) without a change fee, this is not a refund though; none will allow that if you bought a "non-refundable" ticket.
I didn't have to re-book due to Corona but used the option to get an earlier flight 2 days ago, worked well; all done online.
FYI; if you call Delta, the average wait time is about 9 hours; people are flooding the call lines when most can just do it all online.

Problem is, nobody knows when to re-book as the virus eradication timeline is unknown.

Look at how many people are actually on these planes before you decide to cancel - my mom has friends who had to go to South Carolina last weekend to help move their daughter - there were 15, yes FIFTEEN people on the 747 they flew on!

Pilot told them to pick any seat they wanted!!

Yo Grub,
Are you safe up in that corner of MN?
Was in TRF 2 days ago, was offered a job and now my Wife is like; "let's just stay put til the Stock market and the Virus calm down". She is likely correct but dang, timing is a beeatch.
Problem is, these jobs come every other blue moon.
Riding looks great up there (when there is snow).

was wondering if anyone would say that, and that is nothing but the truth, whether its corona-virus or whatever, greed runs rampid on our own soil just as bad as anywhere else yet we are quick to point out other countries and governments, saw a blurp on tv about how products on a certain Ama*** site have more that tripled in price since a few weeks ago, and I don't buy its a supply and demand issue just pure American greed at its finest, I will try to stay as non political as possible but shame on a certain party trying to thrust this into the political forefront as if the other party is doing nothing about it REDICULOUS! And again on the news this morning another 3 cases confirmed so now we are up to what 6 out of at least 6 million people, Some people may not agree with me but my thought... let it run its course, its going to take at least a year to develop a vaccine for this, what are we going to do until then, cancel all public functions? isolate everyone from one another? take away all social interaction? that will just lead to a whole slew of other issues. Its a new virus that has no vaccine as of yet, something that we may encounter as long as we occupy this great planet earth. let it run its course, wont that also help our bodies develop some kind of immunity or tolerance to it. My health is also compromised, am I worried? If I get it I get it, how do we know this virus wont morph into another strain in the mean time? like the flu virus has, no guarantee the injection you get will even defend you against the strain that way be out there. My opinion let it run its coruse, they are doing what they can to develop vaccine, this takes time cant happen over night, and the media just needs to knock it off, responsible for the panic by the gullible public. And for those that are emptying the shelves of toilet paper and hand sanitizer (which ones body eventually develops resistance to making it less effective) You are just so ridiculous.
