I'd love to debate this but many call it arguing.....I guess they don't know the diff.

But seeing how the "super moderator" started this post , he is inviting all comments within the parameters of the rules.

See that pic....that is ME stopping for the condition I see in that pic....very REAL, unlike many on here who want to portray a saintly personna by condemning a person who is honest enough to admit rolling through the unused.....totally unplowed, no sign of approach..... driveway stops.

dial 911, saints!....LOL

Slap the cuffs on - I don't stop at EVERY single stop sign during a day - road or trail.

I actually understand where you are coming from. However I disagree with the logic of rolling thru some stop signs. There is a reason why the stop sign was put in place to begin with. Whether it was the request of the land owner or the club in charge of the trails. You may not like the reason or agree with the reason as to why it is there but it does not matter. If there is a stop sign you are legally obligated to stop. If you want to get it changed why not get involved (if you have not already) and try and get that area changed to something you feel is more appropriate. Until then, if there is a stop sign I feel you need to stop whether you like it or not. I taught both my kids this and to this day if they don't like the rules or feel like stopping at stop signs they don't go snowmobiling.

I am not going to get in a huge discussion about this but thought I would just give another point a view.

Very rational from a rules are rules perspective, but how often are those stop signs updated based on request from the driveway owner? I know that there is little volunteer time available to keep that type of thing updated to current use, so Stan landowner who's family had been coming up all winter long....10 years ago,....hasn't been to the cabin in 5 years....yet there driveway is number 10 in a series of unplowed driveway stops a sledder is supposed to obey which takes the enjoyment right out of snowmobiling at that point.

I believe in ppls common sense to be the judge based on visibility, and situation....rolling through a busy highway is one thing, rolling through an unused driveway crossing in an openly viewed area is another.

Left to the rules are rules people....this country would not exist.

I disagree with the stop sign take the enjoyment out of snowmobiling theory. It's just one more spot to spin the heck outta the track and create a mogul that will be there for days to come. Now everyone else can enjoy your creation, especially if they blow through stops signs at 40mph.......hahaha

that's all fine and dandy, but what I see more than people blowing stop signs is usually because the stop sign or pre warning sign is about 40 feet from the actual stop. Or on a downhill slope towards a roads edge. Or just a stop sign with no pre warning sign in an area you can do 100 in. IMO a lot of signs are too close and need set way farther back, but there are some that do it on purpose too. But I think its 80 percent bad sign placement VS 20% California pounders

No need to pull 'em and put 'em back. Much easier, just bag 'em, canvas bag with padlock, as used on many highway signs.

I must say I'm guilty of the slow (I stress SLOW) rolling stop from time to time also. My favorite has to be the stop sign leading to an abandoned shack or better yet an empty lot. No tracks leading in or out, and the driveway probably never used in years. Hit the trails in the Mercer WI if you want to know the new meaning of stop. There stop actually means park, shut sled off, let engine cool down, slap down an energy bar, start back up and continue on. Anything less is a ticket.

no I was referring to signs like the one in the nicollete nat forest by nelma and the backwoods motel....you zip along in forest and come around a bend and WHAMMO. there she is. a stop sign and 1 foot after that is a highway/road. its usually a broken tail light from buds or blow the sign and like quick too. bad placement of sign. there are many others like this
