well....I'm still gonna say...dang kids with parents who aren't teaching them work ethic. ONLY because...he's not a kid (looks young) he's 30(an adult) and a great guy who's parents taught him good work ethic and about helping a neighbor.....lucky us....funny as we're having a coffee break I was telling him about the thread and how I called him a kid, he laughed and then asks what site I tell him and he says his brother is on this site everyday....lol...lol...so brother from Schaumburg IL your brother that lives in paulding...is great!

Come on....

Don't blame everything on the parents now. I have a son that is a senior in high school. He went to Catholic elementary and middle school, earned his Eagle Scout and does very well in academics. His transition from a moderately restrictive Catholic School to 'almost anything goes' High School in Sturgeon Bay was difficult for him. As parents, we felt we did a pretty good job raising our son, but throw in the distractions of MTV, texting and cell phones, internet garbage (not John Dee!) like Facebook and the ever popular video games, sometimes I feel good parents do not have a chance when the kids get to high school and are faced with all this 'cool' stuff. I have learned to pick my battles wisely and concentrate on what is important, but it has been a difficult road through the teen years.

A parent can only do so much, society has brainwashed our youth at such a young age. It is very sad what has become of our youth, they are missing out on so much good stuff in life.

Enough said, take care and good luck!

HH

A parent can and should do it all. If you are not part of the solution, then you are part of the problem.

theres one little problem your over looking because you live a sheltered life up there i'm afraid....heres why NO KIDS.....ANYMORE....>EVER.....will do any work or mowing or otherwise these days.....and this is just ONE CITY...they're all over the place and you cannot be sure anymore if you'll be killed for a bag of leaves....this IS ACTUALLY WHY .....

To Those of You Born
1930 - 1979

At the end of this email is a quote of the month by Jay Leno. If you don't read anything else, please read what he said.

Very well stated, Mr. Leno.

TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED THE

1930's, 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's!!

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant.

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can and didn't get tested for diabetes.

Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-base paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, locks on doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had baseball caps not helmets on our heads.

As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, no booster seats, no seat belts, no air bags, bald tires and sometimes no brakes.

Riding in the back of a pick- up truck on a warm day was always a special treat.

We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle.

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and no one actually died from this.

We ate cupcakes, white bread, real butter and bacon. We drank Kool-Aid made with real white sugar. And, we weren't overweight. WHY?

Because we were always outside playing...that's why!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.

No one was able to reach us all day. And, we were O.K..

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride them down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times,we learned to solve the problem.

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's and X-boxes. There were no video games, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet and no chat rooms.
WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.

We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them.

Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment.

Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!

These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever.

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all.
If YOU are one of them? CONGRATULATIONS!

You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives for our own good .

While you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave and lucky their parents were.

Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it ?

~

The quote of the month is by Jay Leno:
'With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?'

For those that prefer to think that God is not watching over us...go ahead and delete this.

PC Prof: I don't mean this in a rude way, but believing that every person is a psycho and is going to kill a kid/adult, etc...then you are to blame for them being lazy and living such a sheltered life. Those crazy folks are few and I guess as a parent, I would actually have come over to see what my kid is going to be doing and who they are doing it for before I just say go for it. You can't beat common sense and your gut feeling as a parent!

Funny thing is they are all 30 years old and some are still getting help and hand me downs from mom and dad and claiming they bought it on their own.

wow do you know my brother in-law? But I believe he is 34! Yup still living at home!

It's not the kids, it's the parents.
-John

Everyone wants to blame school's for kids issues and lack of educational expertise too. Kids haven't changed one damn bit in school. The support parents give the teachers and school has!!!!!!!!!!!! Some parents don't ever find fault in themselves or their students/kids. The issues that walk through my classroom door everyday are unreal. HUGE obesity problems, inappropriate clothing, piercings, tattoos on kids under 15 years old, etc... Parents who don't demonstrate what they preach schools should be doing make it impossible for us as teachers to do anything with them. Find fault in others is a lot easier than finding fault in yourself.

.... Formanek steps off his soap box now and goes back to those smiling faces of 15-18 year olds.

pc: Yea...I sincerely meant don't take it the wrong way as sometimes typing and not being able hear the words and see facial expressions portrays it different...BUT you didn't. Sorry you can't handle a peaceful conversation....for you it is over! Please check yourself into the nut house because with your attitude...that is where you are headed. Have a great day and please cheer up and think positive, holy cats.

I was going to avoid this thread but..

Just cause one person can't find kids to spend their vacation raking someones elses leaves. Is hardly reason to condemn all kids or even parents "these days".

there are alot of possible reason, maybe they had plans for their vacation already, maybe they need a break (schools a bit tougher then most of us had it) and I can think of a hundred others.

I usually do not reply and simply enjoy the site, but this one is alarming.

I agree with yamahauler on this one. Some serious paranoia if you truly feel that way.

Tonight I had to pile a little wood in the basement. I was going to do it by myself until my oldest, who is 5, told me that he likes doing work with me that he is able to do, how could I turn down that kind of help. I hope and pray that I am able to keep that kind of work ethic instilled in my boys. I know they are young, but they are off to a good start. Kinda makes me proud.
