Lodging owners,,,,,,,questions for you

when you're at the apple store getting a laptop, grab an iPad and use that with a card reader. Scan the card and show the renters where to go on the iPad.
I'm using square, but looking at others. Square charges a slightly fee to run the card via phone (higher risk). I was thinking 2.75 with card and 3.25 without card in hand, but am probably wrong.

I think they charge me 1.75% if card scanned up to $300. 2.75% up to couple grand when scanned and 5% if hand enter numbers. Guess we could go to www.square.com to find out.lol.

Lenny...I dropped you a PM with the typical e-mail that we receive from the place we rent on Lake Gogebic. It covers a wide variety of things and thought it might help.

no doubt, I feel for ya! Seriously, I think people feel like they are entitled to leave it that way because they are paying us and just maybe,,, they do actually live that way at their own home! Thanks for the info, it's very useful.

Well, it's time to go load the sled and get ready to head west!

I leave my house today at noon, get to Galesville Wi at 5:30. Hope to be gone by 6, drive all night and get to cabin by 10 am, head out for half day ride close by, Wed and Thurs we have guide (C3) fri and sat we ride with out guide, leave early sun come home. We have done it that way for 2 years now and it works okay when you have guys who have hard time getting off work. Being that I am self employed I would rather do it differently but it's just fine,,I ain't that old yet! lol

Thanks Linda, gonna be 3 weeks before I'll be able to hook up with you guys but I will not waste much of your time as I know you and bear are very busy. We can meet very close to your place and best part we can spend a little time with some of our good friends!

You two would never be a waste of our time! We will enjoy the time spent with you guys! I leave for Florida April 2nd for a week, so lets try to hook up before then.

Lenny, my response was more aimed at Polarisrider1 than you. Honestly, you as a business owner, which I respect greatly, have the right to run your business however you'd like. I highly doubt that you would ever tell somebody that you don't care how long and far they drive, and I'm sure you would always make reasonable arrangements for any special request, if asked in a timely manner. This line in your original post is what I have issue with :"I just don't care anymore about meeting every whim of a renter outside of the basic lodging needs." I understand the frustration, but when people stop caring, we all lose. It's really unfortunate that the bad apples spoil things for everyone. I always say, if it weren't for people that always push the rules, we wouldn't have so many of them.

good point but it's true. I provide exceptional lodging at a reasonable price. It's not my problem if someone leaves early to avoid a storm and get here with nothing to do. The can park in my lot, gear up and go ride, if the ask,,,what more can I do. If they have something they want to keep from freezing and take it in I do that also, How far do I have to sacrifice to make YOUR (not you specifically) plans work. Wouldn't a thank you or a little tip for all the effort go a long way. Today people EXPECT everything for nothing and seriously, I don't give a damn. If people get here early than go to breakfast and relax and be happy you made it safe. Don't expect the owners to juggle their life for you guys when you know in advance full well what time check in is. I have a full time job and my wife home schools 2 kids than we get a phone call saying "we're here", "come frigging kiss our butts because we pay you", NO! All I am asking is for some reasonable consideration but because people pay they are entitled to unlimited service and that's BS. You pay for a clean comfortable, warm room with good parking. Not every other problem you guys create is mine for me to fix.

One group was here before 9 and asked this exact thing and I said yes to taking in a small bag so things wouldn't freeze but when I got there all the bags were in there for 10 people, so you see, some just ruin for the others. I am disappointed I have to make these changes but this is what I have been force to do because people take advantage and I am done with that. Now were gonna have forms and CC security crap,,oh well,, that's life.

Have fun people cause I now I am, leaving for the Snowy Mtn Range now

I know I just posted with a little humor a short while ago, but I’ve been thinking about this tread a few times today and maybe this is just unnecessary dialogue, but in relation to people not paying at time of check in, or wanting early check in, I’m thinking of checking into a motel and what happens then.

When I check in to a motel, they run my card for what they estimate to be my total cost for that stay. No way would they be willing to let me stay for 4 days before paying for my room. Also, there have been several times when I have come to check in at a motel and been told the room isn’t ready and to check back in and hour or two. When that happens I just go about my day and while I wish the room was ready, I know the posted check in time and I know I’m early so I take the responsibility of being in the wrong.

Seems like most people are on the same page with this so like I said maybe this was just some extra venting, but I’ve also wondered how many of the people that show up early also expect to not check out until after riding for some of all of a day too.

Lenny,

I don;t blame you for being PO'D. I would be too. I have rented my Cabin in the UP a few times, and luckily for me the renters have been courteous and respectfull of time and property. Leaving un bagged garbage, oil bottles and eating chicken on the Couch is totally unacceptable. At least you know who they are and can blacklist them.

As was said, put everything io writing up front/include No early departures or arrivals. WHEN payment is expected,
acceptable cleaning, organizing of house before leaving.

It is unfortunate that a few people will try to take advantage of any situation, by twisting anything in there favor. Since these types of people exist, we must put everything in writing. Good Luck on future rentals! If you could turn the temps up for this thursday through Sunday up Der, that would be much appreciated. LOL Todd

Gary,I know you are staying at Lenny's in a few weeks. You may want to leave the chickens at home. If
Lenny finds out you're running chicken fights out of his place,he may just snap.:)
