I haven't been in Bergland in about 8 years now, but, if I am over there, I will stop in and buy you your favorite beverage Mr. Berglandbaybar. Very well said, and I am glad you did what you did. Just because people are on vacation, or up for a weekend, that does not give them the right to act like azzholes, and think that, because they are spending money in the area, they can do whatever they want.

FrankieJames7,

No need to attack anyone. Please keep your comments civil because we are much less tolerant here than hardcoresledder.com. You had mentioned in another post that HCS.com gave you the boot and several of your posts have been somewhat negative. You are welcome on this site as long as you follow John's rules. Please read them again.

Thanks,

Mark

Well...If FrankieJames7 is BANNED on Hardcoresledder and SnowmobileForum both within the last 3 months I'd guess that he hasn't learned his lesson yet. This is truly one of the greatest snowmobile community forums around. I truly enjoy that MOST of the users/posters on this site go out of their way to always try to add to the site in a positive way. Lets keep it on the up and up.

Now...back to the topic... I have a Speedwerx can on my 2010 M8 SnoPro and love how it sounds. When I ride out west its always on my sled BUT when I ride in MN I put the stock one back on due to respect for the landowners that I ride near. When I'm out west its all off-trail and excpet the place I'm staying at nobody else can hear me...if they can I'm not riding far enough off-trail.

People always looked at me funny when I pulled up on my 96' ZRT 600 and
it was stock :D

I do like going to Berland Bay Bar (Tom) and talking about Joliet where we both know the area and people. Had a Zrt 600 also with a silencer that was loud. Actually learned it did not do much except pee everyone else off. The Up has become a lot of people that just think they can ruin it for everyone else. I do not know how many times I have had to stop because of people wearing backpacks and shovels crossing the trail in front of me. I am a limited government person but I am all for enforcing the laws in the UP. I went only 2 times this year and think I have a had enough of the people that do not care about anyone else but them tearing up the trail.

100% Agree!

This thread is funny. Am I into obnoxious noise on my sled, nope. However, each unto his own. People should respect residential areas for sure, but outlawing things just isn't the way to go. Common sense should rule.
I guess my horse just isn't as high as some.

Common sense SHOULD rule, but unfortunatly, it does not. While in the UP this past weekend, I just cringed with all the idiots with pipes bringing up the R's in all the wrong places. Way too often you see people on this site and others defending the loud pipes. Then say they are respectful near homes etc. Yet, every place we stopped for fuel there was at least some people making excessive noise with thier caned machines. IMO, too many people are idiots to have the self control. BAN the CANs!

I tend to disagree with you and the other noise vigilantes in one regard.......aftermarket does NOT equate to excessively loud......manufacturers put the heaviest, cheapest junk they can on sleds for durability and lack of warranty claims, no other reason......I happen to run an aftermarket exhaust......but I also ride a 4 stroke and it so happens my sled, aftermarket exhaust and all, is nowhere near as loud as a STOCK Arctic Cat 1100 Turbo.....and my sled also happens to be WELL within the legal limits specified by the state of MI using a quality decibel meter and the distances specified in their "standard"...... are you suggesting I should have to revert to stock just to satisfy someone else's whims?

Buddah - here's we we do agree and you mentioned it on another thread. WI law says that an exhaust that's modified AT ALL from stock, no matter what the db level it produces, it against the law.

I do not agree with this at all. To me, this just gives the cops another reason to pull you over and check you for DUI.

I agree we need to be concerned with the future of the sport.
overly loud sleds are 1 thing a bigger concern to most land owners I talk to every yr are the guys going off in to their clover alfalfa any place other than the trail. they always seem to leave the trail right after the sign that says respect it or loose it.W T F ? it is sad when you need 3/4 of a mi of snow fence to keep a trail open.

Nothing a few strategically placed boulders can't take care of. You only need to learn that lesson one time (if you're lucky).

The "real" issue here is the excessive noise created with the Can. I don't believe that anyone other than the law would cause an issue over a mere "aftermarket exhaust" as long as that "aftermarket exhaust" is within the db ranges, no problems right? It's the blatantly & obviously excessively loud aftermarket exhaust (& operators) that is causing the problems. I live in the Keweenaw, love sledding, live near the trail system, what I don't like are the select individuals that want to make their presence known with their throttle thumb & the excessively loud aftermarket exhausts. This past weekend was a real hoot as there were a number of them & you can hear them brappin for miles before they get to you. I just wish their was more manpower to tighten the enforcement of this unneeded excessive noise. We as snowmobilers need to police ourselves & try to educate those that continue to aggravate the general public, residence owners & business owners alike, otherwise, you will see more trail corridors gated.-Mezz

if u all feel so strongly why just come on here and pretend to be self righteous. do something about it go to your state club meetings get the ball rolling on changing the law of manufacturing mufflers that do not pass SAE-j-2567 stationary 88db tests. your state club has a lobbyist on the pay roll. if u really feel strongly about it do something other than come on to open forum and whine about it. I my self am no fan of the race cans but really don't care enough to put my time in to it .
