LP Conservation Ideas?

Ok have wood burner going 24/7 but will run out of wood sooner or later.
Bought 1500 watt Creamic Heater.... last heater on the shelf at Menards going full blast.
Dialed down to 63F for 2 weeks now.
Hang my bibs over front door helps insulate glass.
Have 2 bath towels bottom of any leaky door.
Let the sun in when shining.
Have verticals closed if no sun.
Keeping showers super short.

Any other ideas we can all use?

towels on bottom of doors
plastic put up at beginning of year on two west facing windwos
presto heat dish heating up the basement when im on the computer
furnace running non stop :(

Is the power grid capable of everyone switching to electric heat? May see some issues similar to what happens during heat waves down south!!

We used to use a kerosene heater too. They do give off an odor, but nothing that'll kill ya. You may see a puff of smoke when first lighting, and when it goes out, other than that they're a great heat source. The bigger trick may be finding a good grade of kerosene at a reasonable price.

Better find more wood. The trumped up propane shortage will put a bind on places that sell wood bigger than big. So don't wait until you need it, get it now. Finding really dry wood isn't easy anyway.

I know easier said than done wet wood next to worthless. Not sure what you mean trumped up shortage ?......it is what it is. If I have too I'll start cutting dead trees close to road in Nicolet Forest just get my firewood pass from DNR but much rather spend that time on the trail riding. Sigh....

My wife has PHD in nose kerosene not going to happen but I like for the garage.

Your best bet is still to find more wood. Can you contact a logger that could deliver logs, how about the cut-off slabs from a sawmill, are there firewood processors inyour area. Even at an extra cost on firewood, it has to be cheaper than propane is now.

I sure am glad I left about 1 1/2 cords on my trailer in the shop. With all the wood I have used this year I will probably burn all that extra I put on the trailer also.

We have a small house, about 1100 sq feet. I bought two oil filled electric heaters yesterday, one in the kitchen, one in the living room, open floor plan. Set the furnace thermostat as 55, yesterday the house was at 61, this morning it is at 58, furnace has not kicked in since yesterday around 1. Todays high is suppose to be 23, so the house will warm back to 61 for sure. The next couple of days I may have to turn the furnace up a bit. But, when we have average winter temps, these oil filled heaters will do the job.

I bank snow up around the base of the house all the way up to about the bottom of the windows. It really seems to help keep the basement and floors warmer.

I do this in early winter around my log cabin, and it makes a huge difference compared to open air going under the place. Farmers all over the midwest put bales of hay all the way around their houses to cut down on air infiltration. It works.

Crank up those snowblowers and have at it. At the prices they are charging now, this should save you a couple hundred bucks in heat loss.

sell the sled and call the propane guy to fill the tank! hey, you asked.
How about adding insulation. close off rooms, caulk everything that cold air can come in and around, close the garage door if attached. Basically make your living area smaller.
