In John's forecast he said he'll be redoing his seasonal outlook due to significant changes since early October.

Could this be good or bad? What do you guys think?

Has to be good!

See the Fat Squirrels thread...

Besides the original Long Term was kinda gloomy and John seems like the Glass is Half Full kinda guy.

Think Snow!!

I think it will be good, meaning a bit colder and snowier than originally expected...I hope at least. Think snow, pray for snow, do a snow dance or whatever your preferred method is!!

JD's prediction is exactly that .....a prediction.
We are dealt cards, and we play the hand.
I am betting snow, with or without a prediction.

Best of luck, to all

predication(?)
noun: (logic) a declaration of something self-evident; something that can be assumed as the basis for argument

prediction(!)
noun: the act of predicting (as by reasoning about the future)
noun: a statement made about the future

58 degrees here in southern illinois at 8.30 this morning. Our normal is 47 degrees. Last year was the same and the results were nothing short of devastating for us.
Over 30 some days of 100 plus degree heat with high humidity destroyed over 90 percent off all our crops. I hate these winters. I wish it would go back to winters of old. The weather has gotten personal in southern illinois. 3 drought farming years out of 6 in randolf county illinois where we farm. All winters were just like this. Warm and mild.

58 degrees makes you want to plant corn now get ahead of the game. I feel your pain devasting summer to the corn belt. I drove thru all of IL in March & spring was a month ahead cutting grass already crazy stuff!

He'd prolly know a whole lot better than I but it sure seems here in the Keweenaw we are in a pattern of a whole lot less snow the last few years. I remember as a kid going to grandma and grandpa's house on the sleds for Thanksgiving, and more than once. Even as a teenager I was always out by now and we did ride into April many times. I do hope I'm wrong for all the business's around here, snow sure helps.

We got bombed around here starting Thanksgiving night, now I can see me grass again.

bummer.

Winter this year will be just like last year. Same pattern setting up. Winter is coming, if it comes at all, two months later each year and spring shows up a month earlier. I'm 46 and I will never see winters again like I did when I was a kid. It is a hard pill to swallow. Winter is by far my favorite season. I enjoy winter sports the most. Bummed in Minnesota.

Some of the comments here aren't jiving with reality. Click the "Historical" tab on Johns website, he has a full list of Houghton Winters. The most snowless winters on record were in the 1950's. There is no downward trend in snowfall in Michigan.... ANYWHERE in Michigan.

SE Michigan had its snowiest decade since 1880 from 2000-2010.

I understand your comment with regard to MI. You folks have an unique situation in the fact that you have two very large bodies of water that are effected by cold air and can produce large amounts of snowfall over prolonged periods given the right wind direction.

Here in MN, we rely on system snows that must be accompanied by cold air from Canada and then be able to tap gulf moisture to produce decent snowfall. Over the last 15 years or so, we have not had many of those events. Last winter we saw a total of 15 inches in the Brainerd Lakes area. One storm brought 9 of it in one day in March. The reality is, MN winters are not the same. Ask anybody who lives here and you will hear the same response.

On a side note, 12 more years and I can retire. We are moving to the Whitefish/Kalispell area. At least with the increased elevation, we will be able to enjoy winter once again. I can wait.

I live 90 miles from a more traditional lake effect belt, so I bought a snowmobile and it gets used. I understand the frustration with the reliance on system snow and I know the last decade hasn't been too kind for you. Yea, a move to a more favored spot would probably make you happier. I really don't know how many of you do it without the lakes.
