No reason to apologize, I appreciate you giving me an honest response. It's exactly what I was looking for, wanted to get a better idea on what conditions to plan for - no better place to get that than someone who frequents these very trails. I've received my trail maps and will stick close to your suggestions. Thanks!

Alright, so this seems like a good place to ask this question. I've never been to the UP but plan to make it up there this year. From the comments on here, I fully intend to AVOID Marquette. Got that one loud and clear. LOL! But what can you tell me about the terrain, etc. Off trail opportunities? I've heard its very different from riding in the Black Hills which I totally loved, but want to branch out this year. Been told it's much less secluded, and you ride town to town a lot (or bar to bar). I don't drink and ride, but curious if this is a typical ride? Just trying to get an accurate picture of the area before hand. Thanks.

well I can tell u it is way more ez to find good off trail in the black hills than in the UP.
it has taken me yrs and yrs to find my spots to play. not trying to sound like a DB but when up ridding with a friend of a friend kind of deal. if I think they may remember where we are there are places I wont go. it is getting harder and harder to find untracked playgrounds U just have to hall more gas that's all.
but like I said it is not like the black hiss where u can jump off trail and go Mi and Mi in fresh pow.in the UP u have to look for it and be able to get through some tight woods to get there.
in all honisty the woods are getting over run in the past you could ride till u needed gas and never see a sled now you can be riding in woods way way off a logging path and runing in to a crew of sleds is normal.
I am planing 1 less up trip and 1 more CO this yr.guess I now see the UP as weekend trips not vacation destanation #1

I'd have to agree with everything being said here about Marquette. I dont sled over there much but the other 8 months of the year we spend alot of time in the area riding our dirtbikes and it seems like the town is a bit stuck on itself. Now that being said you head West/East/South and things get back to the UP as normal. Just to the south at Crossroads Bar off 525 they were clearing the area behind for some new cabins for next year. Keep them in mind, trail goes through there parking lot, they are extremely friendly to off road recreation of all types.

The Crossroads is the corner of CR 553 and CR 480. Very friendly to snowmobilers, gas, bar and full line Cat and Yammi dealers on opposing corners.. Kind of an all in one stop on the trail..
