Passing it along.....

Arctic Cat, Polaris and Yamaha announce "Sneak Peek" schedule to show off 2012 models.

In a series of 22 locations across the snowbelt, Arctic Cat, Polaris and Yamaha will debut a "Sneak Peek" of their new models for 2012. Most are free admission events that will display 15-18 sleds from each manufacturer. That's 50+ new snowmobiles on one show floor all at the same time.

Snowmobilers can see, touch, sit on and inspect the sleds that will be at their dealer in the fall. Also, final decisions on taking advantage of the special incentives that are offered during the spring buying programs can be made with first hand inspection of the various models.

2012 Sled Predictions

As sledders, we all dream of the future, even though today’s sleds are more than suitable for winter enjoyment. It almost seems ungrateful for wishing for more when our snowmobile cup runneth over, but it’s a curse of sledders none-the-less. So here are my predictions (and maybe some wishes) for the upcoming 2012 models (keep in mind we have not seen anything yet).

Arctic Cat
We’ve heard rumors of new chassis designs for a while, and maybe 2012 will be the year. Arctic Cat seems to have the racing sleds dialed in, and quite frankly the trail sleds as well. You won’t find a suspension that is easier on the body than what Arctic Cat offers now (Yamaha’s Mono-Shock II is a close second). The chassis is dialed in, the steering is near perfect and the adjustable rider positions allow you to fit the sled to your liking. So what’s to wish for? Well, more 4-stroke offerings, lighter weight, and a narrower adjustable seat that locks in more solid for starters. Freshen up the looks (even though they don’t really need to be), and that’s our predict for Cat’s 2012.

Polaris
Can you get any more Rush (Pro-Ride) than you have now? I think so, and I’d like to see more short-trackers in the same Pro-Ride front/conventional tunnel rear as in the 2011 Switchback Assault. And could we finally get a 4-stroke that performs on par with the rest of the group? Sure, the IQ Turbo goes, but that’s about it. It still lags in throttle response and fuel economy. I’d like to see a new 4-stroke supplanted in the Rush chassis, now that would be cool!

Ski-Doo
Boy, what hasn’t Ski-Doo given us already? It has two different 4-stroke engines, E-TEC on 600cc and 800cc two-strokers, a chassis that just fits, and super-tight control. Fit and finish could be better on the bodywork, but overall great looking sleds. What do I expect? Well, the 600 ACE motor should be adjusted for better trail response so it truly can replace the 550F. Maybe even a turbo-charged version to really surprise us. How about bringing back the Mach-Z in a Turbo’d 1200 4-stroke? The rest of the lineup is perfect as it is.

Yamaha
Yamaha has been burning the midnight oil since 2003 and turned the snowmobiling world upside down with their all-4-stroke agenda. They made it, and then this year they made it better. So what’s to expect from Yamaha? I don’t expect more than one new model from Yamaha next year because they have covered the bases so well. What is it? How about their best model even better! The RS Vector in the standard (2011) configuration and also in a new config with the same power steering and EXUP found in today’s Apex. The higher seat profile would be welcome, and can you imagine the smooth and predictable power of the Vector engine with the mid-range torque the EXUP provides, all controlled with the ease of their power steering? My mouth is watering already!

So there you have it, my predictions for 2012. No E85, no electric motors (although I can see that one coming), and no Honda.

Thanks!

Good info. I'm hoping for a 4s in a Rush chassis! If not, will consider 2s Rush or Yamaha.

Was talking with one of the sales guys at Nelson's last week and they said the hot rumor is 2S direct injection for the Rush/600 motor. Everyone keeps asking about a 4S but fitment is a challenge. He thinks DI will come out in 2012.

I would go for the DI if no 4s as I love the Rush ride!

Will see more pro ride and less IQ as Pol uses up parts. Hopefully DI for poo, sick of only 9mpg with my cfi 600, why doesn't Pol just buy etechs from Doo???. Saw a new AC 500 Sno pro in person yesterday, have to admit I think that was the sharpest looking sled I've seen yet!

No mention of a new 2s for cat? Their current 2s's won't pass the emissions crap.

You are right Indy or maybe AC going more in 4s direction which twin spar does very well.
When I first saw TS I thought lots of 4s coming but AC has been slow to broaden 4s models. Maybe AC was purging old inventory. AC 4s are good bring more on luv it. Sounds like Poo planning on going head to head with doo with direct injection 2s & ignoring 4s. Pro-ride Rush all about 2s not 4s. Yamaha trickle down Apex to Vector is traditional very low risk 1st year sled worth considering. Vector Yams bread & butter sled & going to be difficult not to buy Vector with those features & prolly pushing 140HP & 20-25 mpg. Nice package if happens. Just give us hot graphics not brown, gray or silver.lol

Really wish Poo would head into the 4s direction and not DI 2s. Everything lasts longer on 4s's including clutches due to less vibration.

Me too but Poo seems caught up in catch up with etek & prolly never be as good as etek but seems to have blinders on regarding 4s. Poo should at least stay current with 4s may be left out in the cold in this market. AC/Yam/& Doo all have nice 4s lineup & poo not investing R&D just letting it go elsewhere. Oh well.......

Polaris just bought the company that makes the four stroke that they use now. A nice 3 cylinder 1200 cc would be perfect.

That is what is so puzzling bought Weber & did nothing with it? Maybe didn't want others to have Weber....... I'm stumped does not make sense. No question Poo going all out on direct injection 2s & that is going to be tuf road to hoe for them. If you want DI 2s Doo has the best sleds & engines. Going to be many that wait & see with DI Poo 2s too many past problems with CFI to be easy transition for them. 1200 4s in pro-ride would put them in a good place but won't be Rush configuration no room something simular but stronger maybe.

No doubt that Polaris will have a DI for next year. Not sure how many people will trust a first year new motor from Polaris. I think they purchased part of Weber because of the possibilities with 4 stroke advancement in ATV's. As far as snowmobiles go, Polaris is not going to invest much R&D in a market that is dosen't make any money for them

would love to the 4 companys make sled that the average consumer could afford. For most of us we are buying a sled that something we only get to use 2 or 3 times a year. I know i can't not afford 10k on something that just sits the rest of the year. Yeah there cool to look at but really come on make them more affordable.

Indy, maybe we all think Polaris would make a fortune designing a new low weight high horse power 4 strokes. The real truth is they make most of their money making side by sides and most of Polaris research dollars will be going that direction.

That V4 looks like a sweet engine. They didn't buy Weber that long ago, give them some time.

Well that anwers my question on the why of Weber & Poo no go with new 4s in sleds. I read somewhere Poo thinks 4s is very small market in sleds. I think they are wrong DI 2s problematic & AC/Doo & Yam expanding 4s lineups. I guess Poo not playing with new 4s tech. too bad can't buy what does not exist.
